> Can’t you just go to the store and buy something anymore? I’m looking for a battery charger for my camera (I could start another rant just about my camera…). I check a bunch of retail store websites to see where I could go to pick one up. Nowhere. Oh sure, I found tons of chargers online…online only. I can have it shipped to my home in anywhere from 3-7 days, but oops, we are leaving for our little vacation on Thursday.
>
> Fuck!! I just want to walk into a store and hand someone cash and come home with my charger!!

If your camera has a USB connection, you can walk into any number of stores and get a USB to outlet converter plug (USB port on one side, electrical plug on the other). I just saw one of those in CVS, of all places. Most items with USB ports can be charged from that.

My rant? My kitty Neko is spending his second night at the vet’s. He wouldn’t eat yesterday, and he seemed to be having trouble getting to his feet, so I took him in for an emergency appointment. He didn’t even try to get away from the vet while being examined, and he barely vocalized–both highly uncommon for him. The vet told me tonight that the blood results were good but they’re still waiting on the urinalysis. Meantime, he’s on his second round of fluids and the vet wants to keep him still in the hopes of coaxing him to eat. They’re trying different foods on him now.

I took a stinky shirt in for him last night. I hope it’s helping him by giving him familiar smells.

I miss my baby. I know he’s 16, I know he’s hyperthyroid, but he’s been doing so well. I just want him home. ☹

TMI girly stuff here…

I’m “late”. I’m never late. I’m usually like clockwork, and I’m almost three days overdue now. I haven’t told my boyfriend yet, I’m not quite in full panic mode yet. I’m not sure how he’ll react. I’ve been feeling queasy for a few days now, and I have zero energy.

It’s probably just stress- see the “Workplace Griping” thread. It’s happened before that I’ve been so stressed that it threw my cycle off. That was years ago though, when my ex and I were splitting up.

I am almost certain that tooth #19 is abscessed. I’ve had problems with this tooth for decades, and I’m tired of messing with it. It’s been drilled and filled and crowned repeatedly. I’ve taken a Vicodin, and I’m woozy, and the damned thing still hurts. Naturally, it started throbbing at 6:15 tonight. I’m calling my dentist bright and early at 8 tomorrow.

> You’ve got it ALMOST right. The shouting bit comes first.
>
> Why the hell are so many computer programs so damned counter-intuitive? And just when I halfway learn one system or program, there’s another new, improved one that I have to get and learn? And the new system won’t play nicely with the older programs!

I was giving some thought today to why are these “just record the process” course-preparation programs becoming so popular (I’m having to use uRWD. Again. I hate it, most of my coworkers like it). I think I have some of the answers, but it still sucks, specially for those of us who are hand-learners (I think the technical term is kinesthesic).

In no particular order:

- Most people suck at planning. Actually, not just suck: suck, blow, fart and burp, and that’s without even getting into the multi-word expressions. Preparing a lesson plan which takes into account different learning styles (specially learning styles which are different from that of the planner), making sure the different cases are covered, is just HARD.
—\> “click on ‘record’”+perform the task, not trying to follow any specific case but rather making sure you click on every button there is+post it without further edit is easy. The results blow goats, but hey, it’s easy. The Spanish auto-texts in uRWD are horrible: they call tabs (as in folders or browsers) “tabulator marks”, they don’t have a single accent/tilde, there isn’t a single auto-title which doesn’t have at least one spelling mistake. But hey, it’s easy, so long as you don’t care about it making sense.
- This isn’t even limited to recorders, it’s about training in general. While many people will say they learn best “with examples” and that’s true, most people learn best when they either see or hear the example: thus, showing an example while describing it is the best way to teach a process… for most people. There’s a minority who learn with their hands, rather than eyes or ears: you can explain something in six languages, in pics, in flowcharts; you can hire Pixar to do your animations… it still doesn’t take root. The best way for them is to perform an example, preferably _while_ it’s been explained - explanation of a step, perform the step, explain, do, explain, do. Since these people are a minority in the general population, it’s unlikely that the people preparing training materials will be among them, and easy that they will be forgotten.
They’re the majority among my end-users. My guys are from the shop floor: mechanics, electricians; often, they drive a vehicle that says Caterpillar on the side. The kind of people that if you drop them in a lecture environment want to run away, but if you give them a tool they can grab (bonus points if it’s red or glows) they’re as happy as a toddler in a mudbox.
And yeah, one of the stupidest things about those recorders is that they’re prepared with the idea that any task has only one possible way to perform it. If I prepared self-evaluations for my manuals (thank Ogette we’ve been told not to, “the examples part is just stupid” - this client has its bad moments like everybody but in general their head is screwed on pretty straight), the student would be expected to fill any free-form text with the exact same text I’d written, rather than being able to write whatever they want to. Yep, the examples part is just stupid…

Most\<\>all, sadly. My camera does have a USB connection, but it doesn’t work for charging the battery 😕. Then again, half the time it doesn’t wanna work to transfer pics either… :smack:

The latest and lamest excuse for discrimination against gays I have read yet: “This life is temporary.”. Ok, so you think you are going to some reward in the sky when you’ve kicked this mortal bucket - that gives you an excuse to be an asshole in this life? Chalk up another on the list of reasons I am not Christian.

I used to have respect for Chic-fil-a. I admired that they (and Hobby Lobby) felt strongly enough about their beliefs that they would stay closed on Sunday, which would be a high-traffic day for both stores. If Chic-fil-a wants to enter the political forum by expressing opinions against gay marriage, the owner has that right. I also have the right not to spend my money there. But for some sanctimonious bitch to say “this life is only temporary” pisses me off. I guess I understand why the twit is 45 and single; this life may be temporary but it’s too long for anyone to want to spend it with her.

I am not anti-Christian. I have good friends who are Christian and strong in their belief. They, however, see no reason to be poking their noses into the bedrooms of other people.

This life is temporary my wide white ass.

I had a tooth like that - I got it pulled last January, and my life got better almost immediately. The empty socket barely hurt at all, even right after the extraction. The dentist wanted to try more stuff to save it, but after fillings, crown, and root canal, we’re done. This is not a successful tooth.

Please understand that the only reason I _don’t_ want to bear your children right now is because I already have a wife and a sixteen-year old daughter, and I don’t think they’d be very receptive to the idea.

Otherwise, I totally would.

My next-door neighbors have young daughters, who shriek in that glass-breaking tone - when they first moved in I must have run to the door a hundred times expecting to see someone run over in the street.

Now, someone could get run over in the street and I probably wouldn’t know it until I read about it in the newspaper.

I give the parents credit, though, the kids are in at a reasonable hour. I don’t begrudge loudness and laughing - it’s just that shriek that makes me crazy.

**kaylasdad99** , that’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me! _blushes_ By the way, there’s a new band called “Flying Colors” - a couple of the guys from the Dixie Dregs, Mike Pourtnoy from Dream Theater - who have a song called “Kayla” on the debut album. Wonderful band and a great song!

Hear, hear!

As for me, every single time I do the goddamn laundry, I throw out my back. It’s in another building in the basement and there are tiny stairs and a very steep ramp. You have to walk up the stairs while using the ramp, it’s very weird. Every time I pull my rolly cart back up, I feel the twinge and have to do the rest of my chores in pain.

I can’t believe my body is starting to fall apart already. I’m 29, not 50!

Seriously! The first pool party they had across the street I was sure a child was being torn apart alive and then stomped on by an elephant. Now that could be happening & I’d just close my windows.

Unfortunately, when they are having a party, which is essentially every weekend, the shrieks don’t stop at anything close to a reasonable hour. And I’d love to be able to work in my garden without having to listen to shrieks, whining and crying. How long is it until September??

Get a navy seabag, huge capacity, shoulder straps so you wear it like a back pack. No little cart and it leaves both hands free for the railings.
