They have little comb teeth in addition to snaps so they don’t fall out. This has been the work week from hell. I’m finally back up to my regular hours after three months trying to adjust to my new anticonvulsant medication, and I’m wanting to be all impressive. And literally every person I’ve needed information from for each of the eight projects I’m working on has dropped the ball this week. I know why, it’s just bad timing with a lot of sudden turnover (nothing negative) but I need more than ever right now to be awesome at my job, and it feels like everyone else is conspiring against me. I finally got the shit I needed TWO HOURS before deadline today. I literally spoke into this woman’s facehole on Monday and told her what I needed, and physically handed her a list of what I needed, and she sent me the wrong shit anyway. Then on this other project, which was also slung on me at the last minute, nobody would make a fucking decision what to write the grant for. After the 20-reply noncomittal email chain from hell I was finally like, ‘‘Hey, it’s due tomorrow, tell you what, YOU decide what to write it for and get back to me by close of business today, or I’ll assume we’re not submitting.’’ It was kinda ballsy but it worked. Our CEO responded, ‘‘Just pass on it for now.’’ It’s been a stressful fucking week. ---

Sick as a dog. Going on two weeks. Started with the head and moved to the lungs. On the second round of antibiotics, 4th bottle of liquid Mucinex, 2nd bottle of cough syrup and have had cortisone shot and dose pack. Come on lungs, I need to be working. Whine is me. It’s been a stressful fucking month. ---

Update on my jacked-up knee: I have a torn meniscus! Yay! Or…not yay. Whatever the opposite of yay is. Apparently it’s not badly torn, I just have to let it heal and try not to jack it up any further. For two to six months. Goody. My dream of increasing my deadlift weight to my body weight or more is over…unless I can somehow decrease my bodyweight to about 25 pounds. ☹ At least I can still work on my pull up. Grumble, grumble, getting middle aged sucks. I’m trying to work out and stay strong, but the original parts are wearing out and making it difficult. ---

Not bad enough to require surgery, just try not to hurt it again. Gee, thanks. ---

Heh, I’m seeing my orthopedist this week for a knee replacement consult. Nothing – not OTC painkillers, not steroid shots – NOTHING is alleviating anything. On top of it I think I’ve also been hobbling around with a couple of torn/pulled/WTF-did-I-do something-or-other muscles or such. Driving my car makes me want to scream to high heaven. ---

Fucking B of A. Our credit card had to be cancelled because of fraudulent use (recounted elsewhere). We were told that new cards would arrive in 5-7 days. No cards. So we called - or I should say, started calling - Saturday. After the usual passing us around and us having to recite our personal information over and over again, someone tells us that our account was cancelled, not the card. WTF? Why would they tell us that new cards are coming? Well, they ‘checked the wrong box’. Oh fuck me to tears. Then they tell us that a manager will have to reopen the account and we’ll have to wait until Monday, and someone will call us first thing in the morning. Well, that passed us by, so we called again, and once again were passed around to different departments, each of which wants all of the same information regurgitated. So my wife hung up, and called back and told the person to NOT pass us on, but to connect us directly with someone who could actually do something, because our automatic payments are starting to bounce. We finally got someone who could take care of the problem and they promised overnight mailing. Assuming the cards actually arrive, we get to spend the better part of a day changing all of the autopay accounts. First world problems, but fucking annoying. ---

I have two choices car-wise - my car, two years old, lovely AC and decent stereo system, but it’s a stick shift, which annoys my left knee. Or husband’s car, 23 years old, cute little sports car which means it’s low slung and hard to get in and out of with a bum knee, no AC (it’s broken, and the temps are in the 100’s this week) and the radio antenna is broken, but it’s an automatic. I can’t win. ---

The people who design online forms need a kick in the head until they learn good UI principles. Don’t repeat yourself, don’t be ambiguous, don’t make it impossible to go back and change things, make it clear when buttons are selected and when it’s being saved. Now I have to call them up and clear up a mistake I made. Stupid morons\*. \*_including me_ ---

A few lifetimes ago when I was a developer i found a well written article in an online trade magazine about how to design useful and profession user interfaces on applications and forwarded it to the rest of my group. A couple of the responses I got back amounted to ‘That’s not how we do things.’ ---

Because some of my coworkers have not been finishing their work ( turning in their documentation/work product), I have to report to my office and wait for approval to go see my clients. This delays my schedule by at least 30 minutes, which delays my going-home time by at least that amount. Pisses me off royally. ---

The cards once again did not show up, so we called - again - and were told “Oh, I don’t see any record of anybody having new cards sent.” What the fuck is the matter with these people? So yet another promise to have them sent out, along with a $25 credit to our account, and a “I really feel bad that you’re feeling bad” apology. This is it, motherfuckers. No cards this time and you can leave the goddamn account closed, not that you give a fuck one way or the other.
