Just saw an Uber commercial that used “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. Ugh.

(Yes, I know Beatles songs have been used in other ads, and this one isn’t particularly new, but still…ugh)

Eh, Paul McCartney could’ve bought the rights to the Beatles music, but apparently $47 million (back in 1985) was too rich for his blood. Note to Paul: You should’ve just bought John out in 1969 rather than throwing a hissy-fit and selling your portion after the ATV acquisition of Northern Songs LtD. _That_ was your key mistake.

This is the second time in 2 - 2 1/2 weeks that a ball of spider eggs hatched out somewhere in my van. At least I caught this one early. I was nearly late to leave for work and when I closed the door of my van, a mat of tiny little webs with tiny little beasties nearly pressed itself into the side of my face. Slight shiver.

On the up-side, They were mostly together, rather than spread out all over the windshield like last time. And I still had the dry washcloth in the van, to gather them and flick them out into the street.

I left the washcloth in the street, too. It was covered with webbing and tiny, nearly translucent arachnids. I’ll pick it up in a bit.

During the first eruption, I learned that my DIL has a think about spiders. She wouldn’t use or ride in the van while they were there.

I can understand that!

I’ve been known to put on full cobbled together protective gear just to approach and dispatch a stinkbug.

A gaggle of spiders in my car??

I would be crying on the side of the road.
(Which I have done before - but not for spiders.)

I usually let bugs do their bug thing without interference from me (saw a centipede in my bathroom today, that was cool.)

But there’s something about a _swarm_ that feels so primal and wrong. I’ve had some nightmarish encounters with ants. Like last summer we had some get in the house and I went to put honey on my cereal and they were _covering_ that bottle of honey - which I didn’t realize until I picked it up. I may have actually screamed.

Nope. That washcloth belongs to the spiders now. I was dismantling my father’s bumper pool table to bring home last week. It had been living in his basement, which had not been adequately cleaned in years. The underside and legs were _covered_ in cobwebs and egg sacks. Thank goodness for the shop vac. I probably should have brought that home too, but was running out of room on the truck.

> How old is the car/tire pressure monitor sensors? The batteries can start to fail and then the indicator always stays on. The replacement costs were ridiculous back then so I just lived with the light being on. And the car self destructed not long after anyway (see Nissan above).

My car has TPMS but just a generic “(!)” low pressure light; it doesn’t tell you the pressure in each tire. It came on & I pulled out my gauge but all looked good. I went to the local convenience store that has free air pumps in case my gauge had gone belly up & wasn’t reading properly. It put hardly any air in each of the tires but it was still on so I went to the tire store; they replaced the batteries in _two_ of the TPMS sensors. A few days later it came on again; this time because one of the replaced batteries was legitimately reading low. The cost of the repair was worth it!

Think of _your_ strength if one had nibbled you; just sayin!

My rant - we had a _massive_ storm move thru Thurs evening (which was also a holiday for us so no one was in the orifice) - 6-figures power outages in the region, crews called in from other states/regions to assist; people _still_ w/o power on Monday; etc. I was off on Friday but apparently a lot of people came in to the orifice to irk (normally a remote day) because they had no power &/or intertubez at home due to the various outages so there were a lot more people in than normal.
A _couple_ of the CO detectors were going off; someone in facilities decided the best course of action would be to go around & unplug/remove the batteries from all of them to shut them up. Maybe there was a lightning strike nearby that fried them just enough that they had scrambled brains or maybe, just maybe, _possibly_ the HVAC was acting wonky, especially if there was a power surge/lightning strike nearby.
I reamed them a new one - _especially_ if you have _multiple_ detectors going off you need to GTFO & call 911; until you know the reason that multiple detectors are going off, or can at least rule out that there isn’t CO in the building you need to treat that as a **life-threatening emergency!**

A pogo-sticking JFC - The stoopit; it burns!!! 😡

I am really glad to hear that! When mine started going out it was probably in 2016 or 2017 and the cost to replace all four was close to $1k! And that was even going through O’Reilly’s and not the dealership.

They replaced _two_ of the batteries / full sensors in the tire (I forget the exact details w/o digging for the slip) within the past year. It was something like $125 total / $60ish per wheel.

I tried that exact phrase (Yeahhhh, that car belongs to the spiders now. Time for a new one.) As a prompt at Sora. It rejected two of the four produced images. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/AcmvTvU.jpeg) is one it allowed. (The other one was extremely similar, but fewer spiders.)

Great. Thank you.

PSA: More hometown Halloween-level scary than insane Hollywood horror scary, so other than hardcore arachnophobes, none need fear to click.

As I asked the question I was wondering to what degree it would “understand” the natural scale ranges of spiders and cars. e.g. Why not a zillion flea-sized spiders? Which at least do exist biologically. Or at the other extreme, a single spider readily picking the car up in its mandibles? Which is not biologically plausible but might have been seen by the AI if the training data included various 1950s atomic mutant Sci Fi movies.

I also wondered if the POV, or the spiders, would be inside or outside of the car.

It went for the typical Halloween plastic spider: roughly tarantula size but with more of a garden spider / Black Widow long slender legs look.
