I wanted to bake a sweet potato in my toaster oven. I’ve never done this so I did a Google search to find out how. All I wanted to know was how long and at what temperature. The first result is [this page](https://toasterovenlove.com/toaster-oven-baked-sweet-potatoes/). The preview on the search page gave me the beginning of the information I required so I clicked the link. What do I find? A dissertation on the nutritional benefits of sweet potatoes, the different varieties, a long discussion on different types of baking sheets and racks, and an explanation of why one washes potatoes before cooking. Finally the recipe appears…only it’s one of those conversational recipes where the author is pretending she’s Julia Child or the Frugal Gourmet. Finally, _finally_, in the middle of the page, right before another dissertation on the differences between convection and regular toaster ovens and a long comment thread, I find the information I was looking for: how long and at what temperature. (400 F for 40-60 minutes.) Online recipe writers, take note: no one wants to read your imaginary cooking show, we just want the _fucking recipe_. ---

Why am I suddenly becoming a country music fan? It’s never had much appeal for me, and suddenly I find myself becoming a fan of at least a small subset. First it was Patsy Cline, then it was Townes Van Zandt, and now it’s Zane Campbell. Who is this person taking up residence in my head? ---

Look into Hayes Carll. I was a rock’n roll chick. Not really head banging but I heard my share when my kids were teens. My lil’wrekker (18yo) burnt me out on Taylor Swift and Arianna Grande, til I taste puke if I hear it. I don’t care for twangy country, but I like a bunch of the Americana Genre, now I am older. Don’t be embarassed, it ain’t so bad. ---

I still listen to mostly rock and pop, with a good admixture of big band, classical, folk, show tunes, and medieval. Just never really liked country because most of it seemed so inane and twangy, although I’ll admit to liking a fair bit of crossover stuff. But that was okay, because it was crossover, you know? But Townes and Campbell are, like, _really country_. It’s baffling. Not that this means I won’t listen to them. I have the My Mother the Mountain album, and both of Campbell’s albums are heading my way. 's just a bit weird for me, is all. ---

Those stupid coolers cost way too much for that foolishness. Mr.Wrekker is trying to make his work like it’s supposed to. They are not that great. Don’t waste your $$ on one. The travel cups are nice though. ---

One of my favorite local salsa makers was at the farmers market yesterday. Bought a big ol’ jar of black bean and corn salsa. Double checked I grabbed the right one, since there were so many to choose from. Ended up pouring BACON salsa onto my eggs. You’d think it would be good - bacon is yummy, salsa is yummy. Bacon salsa is nasty. ---

That sounds like it would be good. Too bad. I tend to stick to plain or original recipes in commercial preparations, though. I have been burnt too many times. ---
