Maybe they actually want the answer to be ‘Strongly disagree’? As in ‘I have zero ambition and will stay in your dead-end job forever’?\* 😉

Fingers crossed you get something decent soon, it’s a hell of a lot easier to get back up the ladder once you’re at least on the bottom rung, and job hunting is a horrible, tedious, dispiriting, freakin’ emotional roller-coaster, especially when you _need_ a job. You get involved and interested in each new possibility, because if you don’t, your application’s all but guaranteed to be crap, but then you send it off all hopeful and get a standard rejection email because no-one even read it, or your carefully crafted application simply vanishes into the æther and you never hear anything again.

\*Disclaimer: I actually had an interview for a waitressing/bar job today (as a student summer job, though IIRC we’re about the same age). I ain’t lookin’ down on the role.

Why do companies bother to post an open position when they already know who they are going to hire? I mean, there is no law saying a job has to be posted to to all employees, that I can find. In fact, most of the companies I’ve worked for never bothered to post an internal position and just promoted the next most eligible person into the position that was vacated.

It’s very frustrating, not to mention a complete waste of time to post a position as open, set up interviews, and get people’s hopes up just to find out the job has already been promised to someone since the get go. Why all the bullshit?

At the doctor’s office. Someone here, I suspect the lady with big hair and a dress on, has too much perfume on. I don’t want to sneeze. My eyes are watering. Why, just why? Jungle gardenia is not gonna make the doctor fall in love with you. Keep your smells to yourself. Ugh!

My son got into a car accident Friday night. He and his three-year-old son walked away without a scratch, but the car is utterly destroyed. I am afraid his prospects for the future are destroyed as well. It’s quite possible that the accident was his fault, and it’s not known yet what the injuries were to the people in the other vehicle. His phone was lost, the baby’s car seat needs replacing. He can’t get to his job. He is angry at the world for shitting on him right now, and he’s acting out big time. I had hoped this could be rock bottom, but he keeps on digging… I’m told he still has a pill problem.

We were the registered owners of the car, so I’m pretty fucking worried about the repercussions of that right now.

After YEARS of my place of employment being fragrance free, they rolled back the policy. Now people can be stankbombs, as long as it’s not “too bad”. No definition of “too bad” was given.
Granted, even when we were fragrance free, people still wore a ton of perfumes and colognes, but at least the policy had teeth.
Today was hell. I swear everyone with a decade old bottle of some nasty Avon / dollar store verging on alcohol musty stank decided to liberally douse themselves.

I am so sorry for y’all. You’re liability should cover the other car. Goddamn pills. I do not know any family where someone is not afflicted/addicted. Good vibes~~~!

We got our streets cleaned today - this is critical in Lethbridge, because we get so much gravel on the streets in winter. My neighbours pulled _their_ two vehicles off the street and parked in their driveway so the section of street in front of _their_ house got nicely cleaned. Their tenant (who parks in front of our house, in spite of my neighbours having room for four vehicles on their front driveway as well as a two-car garage), did not move her car; instead she just left it in front of our house, so half the street in front of our house did not get cleaned. Dicks.

Did the tenant’s car get ticketed?

You would think the absolute last place to be stankbombed would be your allergists’ office, right?

THINK AGAIN!

Office staff had to put up signs reminding people that patients might keel over from the stench.

I was the only one in the office willing to talk to Penelope Patchouli about dousing herself in hippie incense every morning (and lunch hour!). I thought I was understanding, self-deprecating, even humorous, and she seemed grateful for the talk.

Wellll, the next morning we arrived to be surprised by her empty cubicle. Sometime the previous night she’d cleared out her stuff, moved her office to the top floor… and hasn’t talked to ANYone from our entire office block since.

I really should feel bad, but everyone else acts like I’m kind of a hero. Whenever the guilt hits, I just remember the patchouli…

I don’t know what else anyone could have done, and I’m sure you were doing her a favor. I think you did well in an impossible situation. She probably feels extremely embarrassed right now, but again, what was the reasonable alternative?

But wouldn’t it have been easier to just say nothing? If apologizing is too mortifying, how about walking into work, saying hi (maybe with less _Eau de Grateful Dead_ on?), and hoping those in the know forget about it?

In fact, come to think of it, I was only deputized by a trio of suffocating coworkers, but the next morning, _everyone_ wanted to know why she’d fled the second floor.

Wouldn’t broadcasting “I had no idea how to deal with minor criticism, so I fled to another floor?” be a lot _more_ embarrassing?

ETA: Just had a darkly comedic thought: What if she’d cut her perfume by half when she moved upstairs, but then THEY complained about the smell?
(I wonder how I could check on that…)

Walk right up there and have a sniff around.🙂

Back from the doctor. 4 prescriptions and a shot. Apparently I have a pinched nerve. I thought pinched nerves were code for ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with your neck’.
I have an xray in the morning. The shot helped. I can’t take any pills til I talk to my diabetes nurse. Except the pain meds. I have had them before. The rest I have never had. So it looks like she won’t call back today. I expect she’ll try to call during my xray time. Of course. I do feel better. Yay!

If you define ‘winning’ as everyone being happy and the offender being nice, apologetic and not repeating their behavior, then that’s a rare thing and you shouldn’t expect it.

Your area won. She had the choice there and she chose to run away instead of being an adult about it. That’s on her, not on you. It isn’t your guilt to bear.

If she continues the behavior, it may take some time, but the same thing will happen on that floor too. Maybe next time it will be someone in management who can’t tolerate it and it will be much worse for her.

I’m guessing it’s not illegal to park at the curb on cleaning day, it just makes it impossible for the area to be cleared. In our area, it’s every two weeks during leaf season. **Cat Whisperer** , will there be another sweep this season? If not, it was even more dickish.

My husband says he saw a ticket on it a couple of days ago when they put out the signs, but I didn’t see any ticket on it this morning. Lethbridge is EXTREMELY casual about bylaw enforcement, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t ticket for this kind of behaviour. Hmm, the internet says they will get a $30 ticket for not moving their car. Good.

They might sweep again, but no guarantee. I went and had a look; it’s not too bad. I still think it’s a dick move, though.

So, if I have friend that needs you, how does a roundtrip first class ticket and $75/hr sound?

Hope you’re willing to change up your act… patchouli would be “Dear God, did Janis Joplin kill a skunk in here?!?”

(Or if I hired you to crash one of my son’s parties: “Dear God, did Cheech & Chong kill a skunk in here?!?”)
