You realize it is very easy to block the application? Then you never have to see it from anyone.

I tried gathering 30,000 signatures, but it was a lot of work and I wasn’t sure where to send it.

> That must be cheaper than medical school. All my doctors had to study, work hard, and spend lots of money to become doctors when all they needed to do was have God give them the talent. I wonder why God gives people in richer countries more doctors than in poor countries. Maybe he hates brown people.

Wow. Did it take a long time to gather enough straw for that man?

So, did Jim Morrison really go to seminary?

I’d guess it didn’t take…

> I also believe in the God-given ability of doctors for healing. Your brain surgeon comment somewhat applies to my life: having a daughter with type 1 diabetes, I believe in the doctor’s ability to treat her disease and keep her not only alive, but thriving. There has been one too many cases in the news recently where parents have only trusted faith-healing to care for their diabetic children, and those children have died. I do not believe those children dying can be the will of God.

So at the risk of being an ass I’m guessing you believe children dying from cancer must be the will of God.

> More and more lately ‘friends’ of mine on Facebook have been posting Bible quotes, mentioning their connection with God and/or Jesus, and comments that (to me) seem to clearly indicate they wholeheartedly feel that they are better for having Jesus in their lives than someone who doesn’t. I, 98% of the time, don’t make any comment or acknowledge these posts. It is their facebook and their faith, they should have the right to express it.
>
> Then when the shooting happened the other day, I made a post that ended with stating that Sarah Palin posting on facebook that her and Todd would be praying for the victims and for justice, was literally the least she could do. This led into over twenty of my friends who have never communicated with each other going off about my post. Any reference to my atheism was taken as an insult against the three born-again Christians defending themselves endlessly. Even my friend Charles, who I respect immensely and is a defender of atheists and gays, went off the deep end and stopped politely and logically talking to me. He declined into a state of accusing me of telling him he was “just another bigoted Christian.” Two of the three have since defriended me. Where does this hypocrisy come from?

Here’s what you do: Don’t tell them they’re crazy or stupid. Tell them they’re **damned.** Tell them Christianity – or **anything** that serves or honors the false God of Israel, the Abomination of Desolation – is not just wrong but **evil.** Tell them any decent person looks on all Christians, all Jews, all Muslims, as Elijah looked upon the priests of Baal.

This approach will not only burn their sad souls with cognitive dissonance, it has the advantage of being the absolute truth.

Hey, I think about doing things to help people _all the time_. I think real hard about it, then I stop, satisfied I’ve done my part.

> I believe in prayer, and I don’t think I’m crazy. Yes, bad stuff happens. I don’t expect life to be all chocolate and roses. Sometimes the answer to prayer is no.

Here’s what I don’t understand. Maybe you can help. Say your daughter is sick. We can all agree that this is a horrible thing. Do you think God would be less inclined to help her if you didn’t pray?

Or consider this: Say one of your kids needed help and you, being their all-knowing parent were fully aware of it and were fully capable of giving them what they needed. Would you withhold assistance from them if they didn’t get down on their knees and beg you to help?

Not only that, you get to re-connect with your old high school friends from decades ago – thus reawakening the crazy dramas you thought were long buried and forgotten.

Occasionally, the drama gets _really_ out of control – absolutely insane drama, way beyond the pale.

You forget that in your analogy the parent also gave them the disease in the first place.

Too bad God can’t sue for libel.

“The plaintiff alleges that the defendant stated that the plaintiff caused the disease that killed the child, was fully capable of healing the child, but did willfully withhold treatment because the child did not get down on her knees and worship the plaintiff”.
