Just because it's in the net doesn't mean it's free!

I invented the telephone. Your legal team hasn’t paid any license fees so they won’t be calling in the morning or at any other time.

I also invented the trademark symbol. Please stop trademarking things without my permission.

Is it plausible (possibly even likely) that the people doing the posting on the Univision site are members of your forums? I notice from examples you give in the OP that Maria Chamberlain seems somewhat over-represented. I’m wondering if a sticky reminding your members of your insistence that bandwidth swiping/copyright violating are not tolerated might shame some offenders into going straight.

Of course, you’re quite right to be on Univision’s culo about applying some vigilance at their end of the transaction, but anything you can do to reassert some control from your site can onlly benefit you.

Wow, somebody took the time to lift ALL my recipes and put it into a handy list. Do I have a case now?

This is my planet. I own it (only because I happened to have a flag handy)

Now,. git offa ma land!

I’d tend to think not, since it wouldn’t be automatic and would be directly related to the subject at hand. Spamming is indiscriminate and irrelevant (also, Dominican cooking has never enlarged my penis or given me a three day erection). The univision mods might disagree of course, but then one would hope that if they had even a soupcon of consistency, they could not remove your messages while leaving the thieved content up. Speaking of their mods - had any response so far?

You haven’t tried mamajuana, obviously.

If they copied your entire collection (“compilation”) of recipes then it looks like a clear copyright violation and you should take legal action against them. After all, you admit that they would come down hard on you if you had violated their copyright. And it’s not like it costs that much to retain a lawyer for something important.

Update: dozens of messages to the moderators (if they exist) plus 2 faxes and two emails to the legal department and nothing happened. I spoke today to somebody from their legal department who said that they didn’t know anything and had not received any messages. After asking me to send yet another fax to the same number, and when I told him I wouldn’t, he gave me his private email. I sent him a “pretty please + you dissapoint me” letter. I’ll keep you posted.

Great Googly -mooglies.

Looks like angelia123 and honey2428 are trying to cause trouble. Somebody ought to bring this kind of behavior to the attention of their ISPs.

BTW, I can’t read lips in English or Spanish. Do you have any idea what Angelia123’s animated graphic is saying? Could it be a taunt?

Seems like “I fuck you” to me, although I could be projecting.

“Fuck you” is what I understood.

Og, I hate that site! It’s godawful.

In ENGLISH on a Spanish-language site?

¿Como se dice en español, “Fuck you”?

I am not a lawyer, but isn’t it time you hired one?

Your time is valuable and you seem to be spending a lot of it on this to no effect.

“Jódete”.

I am not the litigious type, and I don’t see that I am going to come ahead if I do hire a lawyer, even if it is evident that I am in the right here. Univision is the largest (I think) media conglomerate in Spanish, these are tough people. If I can get them to remove the content without any mentioning of legal repercusions I’ll be lucky.

But, if push comes to shove, I will. I will spend some time today making snapshots of the pages in which my photos and other material appear. Since all my photos are cropped, and I own all the plates and dishes used I don’t see how I cannot prove they stole them from my site.

Well, that tends to support the notion that it’s in English. Have you ranted about this issue elsewhere than the Dope? 'Cos it looks like someone (and either a sock or an accomplice) did that in response to you raising a ruckus about it.

No. I haven’t mentioned anywhere else, and if you notice those posts were all old. It’s just that someone thought it was cute to lift material from my site (and others) and post them without permission. It is very common in that forum, they don’t seem to care as long as nobody is complaining.

:smack: I didn’t notice those posting dates, now you mention it (although I did notice them in the examples you posted in your OP).

That site’s a real piece of work, isn’t it?

How does one go about volunteering for moderator duties over there, I wonder? They really need someone to kick ass and take names.

Ooh, I just had an idea! Go post a message on that thread, linking to one of the posts with the animation. Then ask her if she kisses her mother with that mouth…

Success! They have been pruning the threads with the material from our site. I will keep monitoring and reporting other instances that I find. They also added a warning about not copying material from other sites and respecting copyright. Unfortunately I think this is more a ‘wink, wink. Nudge, nudge’ kind of warning. I’ll see if they actually enforce it.

And just because I was pissed I email webmasters from other sites that their pictures hotlinked with the links to their forum. Hopefully after too many people complain (there are some big names there, like meals.com and kraftfoods.com) they will take this seriously.
