This is my first Pit thread, please be gentle! I’m not sure why, but there seems to be a lot of “Crazy Women” threads on the SDMB. The unifying factor is, of course, gross generalization of women on the basis of some bad experiences. “My wife doesn’t appreciate me… Stupid women! Don’t appreciate men!” and the ever popular “Why do all women date jerks? I’m a nice guy! Women just like being abused!” Listen carefully, please: I have never met you. I have never met your wife/girlfriend/neighbor/whatever, and I have no idea why she’s dating a jerk or being mean to you. However, I resent the implication that just because your acquantaince is a woman and treats you badly, that means that women in general (including me) are selfish harpies. Just because your acquaintance and I both have a second X chromosome doesn’t give us anything in common. I’m not trying to pick on the people who started the above threads; this seems to be a common phenomenon. Of course, it is completely possible that there is an equal number of threads that generalize men which I have missed, but I hope that we can stop the stereotyping in both directions in any case. Thank you. By the way, I know that this rant is shamefully devoid of cursing. Sorry. 😉 ---

I like it that the men these hypothetical yet evil-to-the-core women are dating are jerks/abusive or just bad, fucked up men…and yet this isn’t a negative on men, oh no, this is further proof that women are all screwed up. Because, you know, sure the men are doing horrible things, but it’s STILL all the woman’s fault (and thus ALL women are at fault) because it…ummm…is. :rolleyes: (Maybe I’m misunderstanding some of these rants, but this is the way it seems, and well, it’s funny) 🙂 ---

Eh, what do they know anyway? Men are too goddamned stupid to even boil water! You expect them to understand women??? Hell, my husband is so dumb, I can’t even teach him how to play Twister! Hi **Azure Eternity**. Love the name. That first linked thread was mine, and it was a calculated ploy for attention, among other things. Ya’ try to be the most mature, most evolved person you can be, but you know it kinda gets exhausting? Like an idiot, I’ve always tried to be this rational voice among the mob, spitting out this emptyheaded “Respect your individuality” and “People are like snowflakes” and all this other hippie shit, and all I did was squeeze every last drop of authenticity out of myself. Don’t mind me, I’m on this self-absorbed kick right now. The point is, I started that thread because sometimes you have to grunt and howl and gnash your teeth and be a fucking human being, and not some balloon-headed ivory tower asshole who thinks he’s better than everybody else. ---

I noticed a trend (i.e., generalizing) and pointed it out, but I wasn’t trying to insult you or insinuate that I’m better than you. **Azure Eternity** , I feel bad, because that last sentence in my (altogether incomprehensible) last post was absolutely not directed at you, it was directed at me. I was trying to say that I had been feeling like a fraud, acting like I’m above all this ignorance and pissing and moaning, when I’m really not, I’m just a human like anyone else. And that’s why I started that other thread, it was like “That’s it, I give up, goodbye Buddha, hello George Carlin”. And it was good, because it reminded me that I can get angry and express it, and people don’t hate me for it. Thanks for starting this thread, I thought your OP was thoughtful and sincere.
