Does anybody posting on YouTube ever get prosecuted for all the copyrighted material they use without permission? ETA: No, it isn’t. Moving, that is. ---

[/QUOTE] Not to my knowledge, though a _LOT_ of videos disappear and have a “no longer available” banner after a few days. Fremantle (the production company that owns _American Idol_) is the weirdest- they’ll remove 5 videos of, say, David Archuleta (one of this year’s finalists) singing whatever song he did the night before, but leave 20 more up and running, so I don’t know what their standards are. I wish I knew more about copyright law, but I know that a lot of them claim fair use under “parody” laws. Not sure how much leeway this allows. If Dolly Parton goes forward with her [Howard Stern lawsuit](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/extendedplay/2008/05/dolly-parton-vs.html), it might be an interesting precedent as far as parody is concerned. (For those uninterested in the link, Stern took selections from a Dolly Parton audio-book and by rearranging the words he had her trashing Linda Ronstadt and making graphic “revelations” about Kenny Rogers’ pedophilia with little boys the like. Seriously, just think about it: the burden should be on YouTube? Youtube should be required to provide lawyers and copyright searches etc. etc. etc. for every yoob who wants to post something on what’s essentially a public bulletin board? How could that possibly make sense? ---

The yoobs posting it don’t make any money from it, and I don’t think Youtube is required to give them a place to post it. Again, think about it. If you leased some land and put up a billboard, you should, what, not profit from publishing someone else’s message on it? Again, all of this will become clear to you if you take a moment to indulge in some logic. ---

Some of the works referenced, were in themselves moving when I saw them in their entireties.
