Those statements imply DeLay was honest in the beginning but I think even before he got into politics there was something shady about him. Also, he knew how to push back and get the rich and powerful working for\* him\* and his ideological/partisan cohorts (e.g., the K Street Project). And not only was he was fairly open about it, he successfully convinced his supporters and likely himself that he was doing it for God and country. ---

So he’s buried in a private Colorado ceremony, followed by a lachrymose coffin-free memorial service in Houston.
