To them, it’s a principled stand. I admire people with principles, but I don’t particularly admire people who make a big deal out of _having_ them. If you wish to leave, then leave. There’s no need to explain to everyone why you’re leaving. There’s no need to cause a scene. No one cares. We wish you well, but we don’t need to hear you take some kind of so-called moral stand. People won’t think less of you merely because you’re not here; they may, however, think much less of you if you cause a big stink over your own leaving, if you carp about having to pay or some other conscience nonsense. By the same token, if you wish to remain, pony up the $5 and remain - but please don’t make a big deal out of the fact that You Paid for Something. We don’t care. I admire people with principles, but I don’t particularly admire those people who take a principled stand for no other reason than to show everyone how morally superior they are. In short, if you feel you cannot (for whatever reason) pay to stay, then I wish you well. Perhaps we’ll run into one another elsewhere, like the UnaBoard, Fathom, or LJ, and perhaps not. But please realize that whining about the subscription situation - and whining about those who whine about those who whine about that situation - serves no positive purpose that I can see. ---
