The property is just south of Hilo in Orchid Land Estates Lychee,Longan, Breadfruit, Mangosteen, (of course) and many others will be planted shortly. With 140" of rain a year, they grow fast. ---

Hey neighbor! We live in Honomu (although since we’re posted abroad all the time, we see our home only intermittently and in fact have renters right now). What flow zone are you in? We looked at some great property south of Hilo, but the zone number was too high (a 2 or a 3, I think) for our taste. Ours is 7. ---

I bet your homeowners insurance is cheaper being that far inland as opposed to beachfront property. Anyway, I’m really jealous! I have always loved Hawaii and have yearned to go back there to live for good at some point, but darnit if a lack of funds and readily available employment there don’t always confound my desires! ---

We’re in zone 3, but its been 350 years since the area was covered in lava. Since that time the hot spot in the earth’s crest that created all the Hawaiian Islands has slowly been left behind as the islands has moved northwest. I’m actually more worried about a major earthquake, but I’ve lived in California almost all my life so I guess I’m used to worrying about earthquakes. Honomu is beautiful. Zone 8 I believe.
