# Just got an iPod. Now what?

You can download the iPod manual[here](http://www.info.apple.com/support/manuals.html#ipod). I don’t remember it being this complicated.

Apparently, the problem was that I already had iTunes open when I first connected the iPod. I exited iTunes before connecting again and everything’s working like it’s supposed to.

Congrats!

Now here’s another tip. The one-finger dial control really works best if you’re holding the ipod in your palm and using the thumb of that same hand to “dial” it. It’s really built to be a handy, one-handed convenience feature. Being the backwards sort of lass I am, I always use two hands, using an index finger of the opposite hand as the “dialer.” It’s much more awkward.

If you choose to do it this clumsier way, please don’t do it at my house. It makes my husband nearly scream with frustration to watch me do it, I can only imagine the effect of witnessing another person do so.
