How long ago was this? Wasn’t laparoscopic removal an option?

Well, lemme see… It was between the births of my 2 kids, the older of whom just turned 40, so something like 38 or 39 years ago.
I don’t know when laparoscopic surgery became routine. Also, from xrays they knew pretty much where it was at that exact time, but I don’t know if it was in a place that wouldn’t have been easily accessible via lapaoscope, or if it was moving around.
As a side “benefit” they removed my appendix at the same time. The doctor told me that surgeons have generally agreed that if there’s any surgery in that area, the appendix comes out too, so that if a surgeon sees any abdominal scar he/she does not have to worry about appendicitis. I don’t know if that’s the case now.
I also want to chime in with the Mirena love. I couldn’t afford to get my tubes tied and felt that at my age (42) I didn’t want the added risk taking BC pills. With the Mirena the hormone is delivered straight where it’s needed and at the lowest dose possible.
I’ve had mine for about 10 months now. Insertion was a bitch! I haven’t had children and all I had before was some Xanax and Advil. The “measuring” was the worst part and caused considerable pain. It might not have helped that, while my uterus is fine, I have a deviated cervix and it tilts down. I had significant cramping for a few weeks after off and on and now I only get cramping around ovulation and the onset of my period. I’m not fortunate (yet) to have stopped my period, but it’s gotten lighter & lighter as the months have gone on and now it’s still shows up like clockwork, it’s more spotting than period.
I know it’s not for everyone, but I sure wish it could be - it’s the best thing that ever happened to my sex life!
