Just on CNN: Oprah Winfrey seriously thinking about running for POTUS in 2020

I’d support most other Democrats (certainly all of the ones who get the most press about 2020) over Oprah in the primary, but I’d vote for Oprah vs Trump in a heartbeat.

I highly doubt Winfrey will run for office. A month ago, her favorability rating was likely very high. I don’t care who you are, once you announce your going to run for president, your favorability ratings drop like a rock. And therein lies the problem as she makes her living on media and TV shows, without a true heir to take over the business.

Besides Oprah is very good as asking questions, but how would she fare answering them?

I don’t see elections as an either/or proposition. I think of voting more like jury duty, where my responsibility is to be as objective as possible about a candidate’s fit with my principles regardless of how I feel about the other guy. We got Trump because, in my view, many conservatives knowingly voted against their own values out of fear of the alternative. That’s why I would be a hypocrite to vote for an unqualified candidate just because I hated the other guy. If Oprah ends up on the ballot I’ll write someone else in. YMMV.

That basically describes my reaction, too. I’d say ‘some other Democrats’ rather than ‘most other Democrats’ for the question of primary support, but basically that’s it.

Oprah is a great orator. It would be nice for the Democrats to have someone who can put across the ideals of the Democratic party in a stirring way, rather than a buttoned-down bureaucrat. And Oprah, undoubtedly, can act decisively, delegate, surround herself with competent people, and other management-skill requisites of a President, as she’s proven by building a massively-successful business from the ground up.

I don’t like Oprah’s support of woo, though. And of course she’d lose all the votes of the many Democrats who manage find a fatal flaw in every candidate who fails to be male. Those are real negatives for her as a candidate.
