I’ve been seeing the exact same post about pricing (and of course it’s in all caps - THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE!!!), and I’ve been linking to Snopes and posting what you said…that this makes no sense at all. No one gets it. I see a serious culling of my friends list is due. ---

Here’s another: On September 31st, 2011 Facebook will start charging you for your account. To avoid this, you MUST get NAKED, stand on your dining room table and do the Macarena, all the while singing ”I Will Survive”. After filming and posting it to your Facebook wall and YouTube, then, and only then, will Mark Zuckerberg come down your chimney to tell you that your account will stay free. Pass it on, it must be true because someone on Facebook I hardly know told me!!! ---

A lot of people do FB from smartphones. I have no idea how that works. Do they ever have to login? Do they ever even see a login screen? ---

They just want to feel good by reaching, and communicating about, a common view with others. If you disagree, you break the mood. Maybe another thing is that people know themselves well enough to know that if they believe they have supported a good cause, they will feel good. Whether they have actually supported a good cause is not the point. The point is, as long as they feel they have supported a good cause, they win. So by pointing out they have just participated in a hoax, they now can’t feel good. You have harshed their mellow. ---

I think it’s also because by pointing out that they’ve fallen for a hoax you’ve revealed them to be idiots.
