Just saw a bald eagle perching near my house

No bald eagles around here, but about a year ago I saw a hawk in a nearby park. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bird of prey in this area before.

I’m amazed at how emotional I became looking at that magnificent carrion-eater! It truly looked as noble/bad-assed as any I’d seen before, live or in pictures.

I hope it nests somplace on my farm!

We have a few nesting pairs north of you in Door County. They are very difficult to get pictures of since they keep their distance, and I have seen one on the beach only once. They don’t light on my bird feeder like the bluejays do.

I live in Northeastern Illinois. We have lots of hawks, but I’ve never seen an eagle. I’ve been meaning to take a drive up to Wisconsin to do some watching. I’m going to make a point of it this summer.

I saw two fishing a pond beside the Polk Parkway on my way to I-4 the other morning. Beautiful.

I tried to up load the eagle video, but photo bucket wouldn’t let me. :frowning: I think I’m just an idiot.

Very cool Qadgop, if you can arrange for them to do a fly-by of my farm down the road some Saturday afternoon I would appreciate it!

I haven’t seen any eagles around, but there was a mallard in my yard yesterday morning. OK, I got nothing.

Ooh. What an appropriately timed thread! Yesterday my aunt was driving me to the airport in Seattle when one flew right over the road. It was really way cool. They’re gorgeous, aren’t they?

Hey, I just remembered that there is an eagle nest over in Kent that is being monitored by camera. As I’m typing this, Mom (or maybe that’s Dad) is hunkered down, apparently keeping some eggs warm. Thought you guys would like to see.

Mom and Pop just did a shift change on the eagle cam. I saw two eggs in the nest.

Here on the other side of Wisconsin (or east coast of MN) bald eagles are pretty common, esp in the springtime when they hunt the ice free area below dams on the Mississippi. I’ve seen >2 dozen in the trees / on the ice while I was driving on I-90.

Today I hiked some of the bluffs near LaCrosse. No eagles but some hawks and vultures. I was on a blufftop and a vulture hovered up the side of the bluff pretty close to me before veering off into the valley. Pretty cool. (also saw a piliated woodpecker)

Pretty neat for ~2 miles from downtown.
