My kids raised our first couple sets of chickens like pets. We didn’t let the chickens in the house though once they were old enough to put in the coop. And we wash our hands. I like having the fresh eggs. Noticeably better than your organic, free range whatever in the store. Plus they will eat just about any leftover. And composted chicken poop is really awesome fertilizer – makes my hop plants grown 20+ feet tall ---

My grandmother had a pet turkey. Naturally he didn’t start out as a pet. He was intended to be Thanksgiving dinner when he grew up. However, the little fellow imprinted on my grandmother, following her every where when she was outside, even pulling weeds with her in her garden. He actually got so good at weeding that he could do it on his own. He had figured out which were weeds and which were wanted plants. He never starred at a Thanksgiving dinner. He died of old age, still my grandmother’s constant companion. As much as she liked that turkey, I never saw her attempt to cuddle it. Probably a good thing. lol ---
