I’ve been in a really bitchy mood tonight, and I apologize. I found out my mother’s been diagnosed with liver cancer and am not taking it too well. So yeah. Sorry I’ve been in such a foul mood this evening, and thought anyone who was talking with me in threads deserved an apology. ---

Oh shoot, I’m so sorry about your mom. I hope she has a good team and a good treatment plan. I’m a cancer survivor and know it’s a kick in the gut for everyone involved. ---

May I ask what kind of cancer you suffered from? I am genuinely worried and depressed and pretty angry at the world right now. Liver Cancer from my readings, even if caught early (and she needs further testing to see staging) doesn’t have a good prognosis. Our family friend, my godfather actually, died earlier this year from advanced Liver Cancer… Anyway…Thanks for your kind words. I feel bad when I lose my temper and say dumb things, but it’s not been a good week, or a good year. ---

Good luck my friend. Are they sure it’s liver cancer as opposed to a metastase of some other cancer into the liver? As the body’s filter the liver ends up receiving and sometimes absorbing just about every nasty that ever floats through a bloodstream. My father was killed by a metastase from elsewhere that took up residence in his liver. This was some years ago and the medical world has certainly moved forward at least a little bit. While none of this is good news, there’s a lot of difference in prognoses depending on exactly what breed of cancer she’s dealing with. Good thoughts heading your and Mom’s way. ---

Very, very sorry for this, and I hope that treatment can offer your mother relief and comfort. As far as being angry and fussy, well, my mother always said, kick the chair, not the cat. But for today, no worries. You’re a good guy, in a tough place. ---

I’m sorry for your loss…May he rest in peace. I wish they’d find a cure for this shit already ☹ She’s going in for a PET Scan soon. Good news is she can an endoscope exam which was clean. She also had a lung scan recently which was clean. She also had an AFP test done a few months ago which was WNL. It’s more than likely the liver. She has a history of Hep C, for which she got a liver transplant in 2013. Just before she had gotten the transplant (like a month before), the old diseased liver had developed cancer. It’s possible that the cells stuck around in her body and decided recently to attack the liver. The post-transplant medications she’s on have helped her develop diabetes and hypertension; one of the medications comes with a risk of Skin Cancer, which she has already had several bouts of. But I’m hoping (and thinking) that it didn’t migrate from somewhere else. Given her history, it’s very probable that it started in the liver. ---
