Just watched "St. Elmo's Fire" - Wow. That Sucked.

I just wanted to drop into this zombie to remind everyone what a hugely pretentious douchebag Judd Nelson was, and possibly still is. I remember reading a very unkind article about him where he was quoted in an interview saying the dumbest fucking things I’d ever read. He even wore non-prescription glasses to make himself look more intelligent.

The only reason why this movie was popular with us in college was because Georgetown refused to let them film on campus so all of the college scenes were filmed at the University of Maryland. It was sort of cool to see some of our buildings in a movie. Not cool enough to make up for how bad the movie was.

Agreed. Movie sucked pond water. Theme music was pretty good, though.

wasn’t this the movie that helped kill the whole "brat pack " mystique ?

And since it was mentioned upthread I’m still waiting for someone to have the courage to film A real less than zero movie that’s actually based on the book ,

They have made film versions of four Bret Easton Ellis novels. Do any of them not suck besides American Psycho? Honestly, at this point in my life, I simply find the “hedonistic drug addled trust fund sociopaths” genre tedious.

Nope, most of the pack had started to age out of the pack plots and salary expectations were rising as well. Saint Elmos fire had come out in 85 and by 86, top gun was released and basically it was a darwinist experience. Cruise, Lowe (by way of a sex tape scandal) and RDJ moved on to bigger and better things.

The rest had varied careers but for the most part, had plateaued with the bratpack.
