# Just what I need to see first thing in the A.M.(maybe TMI)

This morning, on my way to the store, I saw a flare in the road. As I got closer, I saw that someone had put it there because a deer had been injured and was laying in the middle of the road, still alive and moving his (or her) head around.

I drove by, feeling sorry for the deer, but not sure what I could do about it. It looked so sad.

On the way back, a man with a pick-up had pulled over to help the deer. I also pulled over to see what he was doing.

I really wish I hadn’t. He pulled out a hunting knife and slit the deer’s throat, blood everywhere.

I know that it was probably the only thing to to for the deer, and we are in an area where hunting is a way of life, but I’ve never gotten used to seeing these things.

If it was hit by a car, the meat is mostly no good, and you have the fun possibility of slivers of bone showing up in your steak.
