My boyfriend’s eye* looks like this. Picture’s not that great, as it’s from a webcam shot from a year and a half ago, but you get the idea. His passport says they’re hazel.
*well, one of his eyes. he does have two.
My eyes are green; a fairly solid, even, moderately dark, green. No brown or blue flecks or rings, just solid green.
Yet, when getting fingerprinted for a job aplication, the technicians invariably insist on entering my eyes as hazel, despite the obvious evidence in front of them, and my insistence to the contrary.
Fifteen years ago, when I lived in Kansas for awhile, my driver’s license listed my eyes as hazel, despite my having told the clerk they were green.
California actually allowed me to have green eyes when I lived there, though.
