Told me what? The only change in my views was that the pope is an even bigger shithead for suggesting that couples who have only one child are selfish and should have more, regardless of their feelings on the matter.
Bah! As I just discovered in another thread Pope Francis is in fact a crypto-Jew, working on behalf of the world Jewish conspiracy to eradicate good Catholics:
Depends on where you live. In San Francisco, for example, the average rent for a studio apartment is $2,417. I have a 3-bedroom townhouse in a small township about 40 miles outside of Philly, and my mortgage is less than that.
ETA: And I missed your saying it was for a second house, not a primary residence. I suppose most people think a vacation home is an unnecessary extravagance no matter the price. I’m ambivalent.
I recall hearing on the radio just yesterday morning that the Pope isn’t allowed to own pets in the Papal apartments. In fact, with the exception of service animals, pets aren’t allowed in the Vatican at all.
“But currently, Pope Benedict XVI must abide by the rule against pets in Vatican apartments “although one cardinal has a dog and everyone in Rome knows it,” says Mahony.
One of the absolutely solid reasons I support school uniforms. I also don’t think a 9 year old should have a walk in closet with a hundred outfits and 20 pair of shoes like Sex in the City woman … when growing up, I had school uniforms, and 1 absolute formal [sort of like a nice non-bridesmaid gown because we did do situations where I needed to get that dressed up - where is the mr yucky face we used to have?] 3 less dressy but still fancy outfits [think cocktail level or dining out at the ritz sort of clothing] and 4 pair jeans, and probably 8 or 9 tshirts, and a couple pair of shorts. I only had a bathing suit because the place we did Red Cross training required them, otherwise lake and sailing time was ratty cut offs and a tshirt. Pair sneakers, hiking boots, and mary janes for dressy. I still don’t have that much in the way of clothing, every stitch I own fits in a MOLLE pack and a seabag. I could pretty much move everything important to us in my momvan [the cat carrier would take up a fair amount of room, we have the medium dog sized one to give Tiny Apex Predator space.]
If it weren’t a certainty that he’d adhere to the precepts of his church, he’d have never been in a position to even be in the running for Cardinal, never mind Pope.
Anyone of us could do all those progressive things in his place, sure. Which is why no one of us would even be considered for it in a thousand years.
I’ve seen ample evidence of the latter, not so much of the former. Given that, I’d say less is more – says the guy who’s had a vasectomy and remained child-free.
The last fifty years of human history demonstrates a remarkable level of ingenuity in accomodating rising populations. It is a fact that fifty years ago people were saying the world’s population could not possibly be sustained any higher. They turned out to be amazingly wrong.
