Yeah. The trick is in what direction(s) you’re weird in. Some directions are great; some are meh; and both of those are fine. But some are awful. I think (based on rectally derived information) that “weird” as a positive may be a much more common use among people likely to vote for Harris than among people likely to vote for Trump. Which means, come to think of it, that it can’t be effectively used against us; but can be effectively used against them. I guess I’ll put up with it. (Not that I have much choice; they didn’t have me in the focus group.) ---

Yeah; one of my first thought on seeing “weird” used as an attack on Vance etc. was “How is this going to go over in Austin?” But, as you say, it’s a blue dot; and I doubt is going to become less so over this. ---

It’s definitely relative because it seemed completely vanilla to me. I’m a lifelong Californian and it was about a 2/10 on the weird scale from what I have seen in my life. ---

Yeah there are those of us who get called weird and smile “yup!” More likely those are the those of us who are the good weird. We lean blue. (Mind you getting to that place was sometimes a process.) And there are those of us who get call weird and scream “am not! take it back!” … not likely the good weird and lean red. ---

The “Keep Austin Weird” thing was already borderline rubbish 25 years ago when the small/independent business community came up with the campaign to promote buying local. The city itself was never as weird or as blue as the stereotype/marketing campaign made it out to be. And it’s not a blue dot. All of the major Texas urban areas are blue and their suburbs are often blue or at least purple. But also highly gerrymandered, e.g. CD 15 is a skinny district that runs hundreds of miles from the south of Austin literally to Mexico. But yeah, it doesn’t matter. It’s about how the person takes it. The ones who want to think of themselves as “normal” on the one hand and start spreading rumors about immigrants eating pets on the other are the sort to take it poorly. ---

“Breaking out” is a bit hyperbolic given the last Reuter Ipsos poll was H+4. So far the bump is up 2 from previous on Morning Consult and up 1 from previous on Reuter Ipsos. More polls to come by Monday I am sure. I’m hoping the shout out to Pennsylvanian Poles over Trump’s Russia Ukraine bit will specifically show better than national results in PA. PA apparently has a Polish population twice the national average at 5.67%. Not sure how they usually lean… ---
