Readers added context: The above mentioned “pieces of plastic” are [bump stocks](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/what-recourse-do-should-people-who-destroyed-turned-in-their-bump-stock-have/1003261).

IMO, pushing back against Trump for trying to ban bump stocks in the wake of a mass shooting involving them, isn’t exactly a noble position.
