Saturday evening April 18, somewhere around 8 to 8:30 pm, we heard a window-rattling bang or explosion. It didn’t sound close but it was still loud enough for my wife and I to look at each other and say “What was that?” We’re in Lawrence KS but apparently folks in towns at least 5 to 10 miles away heard it. (My wife has been looking at Facebook and Nextdoor to see what people have posted about it.) I know we have a few Dopers in the general Kansas City-ish area, just wondering if anyone else heard it and/or has any idea what it was? Possible explanations are a sonic boom, a meteor, or just a big explosion somewhere.
