The article helpfully describes the beating in detail, which is helpful for those like myself who would prefer not to view the clip. The author of the article is apparently unaware of the hard work done by the folks at [bushido.net](http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=88535), who first investigated this incident.

[Examiner.com](http://Examiner.com) article: [One moment, please...](http://www.examiner.com/x-18956-Knoxville-Crime-History-Examiner~y2009m8d26-Video-of-savage-beating-at-a-karate-class-leads-to-investigation-25-years-later)
No new material, but it’s interesting to see the story emerge from the blogosphere.

Along those lines, France24 has a concise writeup:

I think that’s part of why it is so uncomfortable. The video IS funny, until the guy gets his head stomped on. If I went into that blind it probably would have been pretty awful because I probably would have been giggling a little bit even though I still thought it was wrong.

Taken a bit of MA myself - I strongly vote making shit up.

> This dummy was in my shopping center while I was on a Bodyguard Job in Washington, DC. This guy was in the Pizza Hut eating pizza off the plates of others and the Pizza Hut Manager ran him out with a pistol. Later the very same day, police officers were called to remove him from a nearby pharmacy after having been caught reaching into customer’s purses.
>
> A short time after that, he visited a Napa Auto Parts store next to my Karate Dojo and told the management he planned on teaching in that Dojo and that Jesus taught him. The Napa guys told him he was confused (their polite way of warning the man against such action), but not wanting to miss a show, they told the man they would close early just to watch and that he must not know the owner, which is nobody to play with..
>
> Needless to say, the police pulled him out of the dumpster behind my Karate Dojo where he was neatly placed. Semper Fi to all my Marine brothers. The karate student in the white is also a Marine Sgt. and a brand new Black Belt. Never get stupid with a Marine, you could get jacked up and have your clock stopped.

Also letting your student stomp on the guy at the end was purely negligent. Finally you didn’t call the police or EMTs. Hope you have your insurance paid up.
>
> Oluwadan // This is a brutal and unnecessary act of ego. This man was obviously mentally ill and should come back and sue you ass. He has obviously now got enough video evidence. Stamping on a persons head is not reasonable force and this type of behaviour is not acceptable from a ‘martial artist’. Placing it on public view brings shme to the martial arts community.

It looks like he had had some training in the past. Maybe a couple of months worth, but that’s all.

That is one _horribly_ written article. It is rife with grammatical errors, spelling and punctuation mistakes, and downright unprofessional writing.

Par for the course for Associated Content. It’s the Wikipedia of amateur journalism.

I’m not normally one for RO, but as a martial arts lover this one bothers me (I did not watch the video as I enjoy getting my sleep at night, thankyouverymuch.) From what’s described here, it’s such a poor reflection on those who study with discipline and integrity. I don’t suggest that all martial arts instructors ought to be held accountable for the actions of their students, but when you have an entire Dojo of people sharing this attitude, it definitely points to the irresponsibility and immaturity of the instructor. I am appalled.

From the article:

> [@](#):
>
> The claims that the man was either mentally challenged or mentally ill originate from the misconception that the man was claiming to have been literally taught martial arts by Jesus himself. Contrary to claims, in fact, upon listening closer to the video or reading a transcript of the incident, it is apparent that in fact the man does not make these claims. In actuality, the man states that Jesus is his master, only after Mr. Blythe refers to him as “a master who has no master”. It in not uncommon for Christians to refer to Jesus as their master so that statement can’t be construed as meaning he felt he was taught by Jesus. Furthermore, when asked if he was taught by Jesus, Mr. Blythe cuts the man off before he could give an answer.

In the video, Blythe says the victim got promoted to tenth degree red belt by Jesus Christ. The victim replies that he got promoted by The Tiger, and says that the Tiger is a descendant of Jesus Christ. He then points to the crease of his elbow and says “here is The Tiger”. A few moments Later Blythe asks him, “Who’d you say promoted you to tenth degree red belt?” The victim’s reply: “Jesus.” A few more moments later Blythe says, “I know everyone of us would like to be taught by someone that has been taught by Jesus. Correct John? Because I guarantee you, that’s got to be some movements to behold”. Then he looks at the victim and asks, “Right?” The victim start off with “Well, I won’t brag or anything of that nature, but…”

> I have been in similar situations. When I was teaching a class many years back, a “kung-fu” guy came in and was watching. (This was in a college gym.) He was in uniform, and I noticed him watching and asked if he would like to join the class, which was pretty informal - just me and some of my brown belts sparring. He said No, because it wouldn’t do any good - judo didn’t work against his style because his ch’i caused him to stick to the floor and made him unthrowable.

He wasn’t [this guy](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=livPfJr1Brg), was he? He’s pretty well stuck to the floor there at the end.
