It was kind of funny when the asshole got knocked down. I think that’s really why he got so pissed. Right, and a stomp is one of the most forceful motions that a human being can make with their body. **Shodan** has a point about speed, but also a kick tends to have a lot more mass behind it than a punch. ---

That’s what I was recommending the karate guy learn to do. He kept doing the little flippy no-contact kicks that he was used to using in sparring. And yes, it is much easier to get your weight into a downward stomp than another kind of kick. Kicking with power is much harder to learn than striking - we are much more used to pushing with our arms against a upright object. But watch the muay thai guys when they throw a round kick - they are committed, and sometimes when they miss they spin the full 360[sup]o[/sup]. I was taught that, in a real fight, you never kick above your own belt buckle. Not only because it is easier to land low, but because it is easier to get hip drive behind the kick, if the direction of the kick is either straight forward, or down. Now we can get into a long, contentious discussion on whether to land punches on the first two knuckles and palm down, as the karate folks do, or the last three knuckles and with your thumb uppermost, a la Jack Dempsey.
