Of course it was a boob reference. Dolly was the biggest pop/country star in the nation in the 70’s. She was constantly the butt of jokes and gossip. Heck with the huge wigs and outlandish outfits even she admitted that she was practically a caricature. Comparing a lady to Dolly was a tasteful way of giving a compliment. Saying a friend had nice tits would get you a slap in the face. It’s like the difference in a risque joke and a filthy one. Society tolerates bawdy humor. Being crass or vulgar isn’t acceptable in mixed company. Or at least that was the rules when I grew up. People are more easily offended these days.

I agree Dolly jokes in reference to a kid is wrong. I was talking about a 15 or 16 year old that is already dating and nearly an adult.

A teenager can feel insecure about the changes in their appearance as they grow up. A few compliments to a teen boy or girl can help boost their esteem.
>
> I know today you got to be careful. Maybe tell them they have a nice smile or comment on a good grade they made on a test. Keep it as neutral as possible.

Oh yeah… It’s a real self-esteem boost when pervy old dudes leer and drool. I can’t tell you how attractive it made me feel to have my stepdad make fun of my titties.

You think it’s appropriate for an adult male to make jokes and comments about a 15 year old girl’s breasts? You’re entering some pretty creepy territory here.

I never said anything about jokes or comments about a teen girl. I was referring to Dolly. Heck she was in on the jokes. She commented about it all the time on the talk shows in the 70’s. I can remember her making mild boob jokes on the Carson show. She was making millions and millions portraying that Dolly persona.

The whole point in making a Dolly Parton reference was to keep it reasonably clean and just a little risque. At least that was the idea 35 years ago. It’s a new world today. One that I barely recognize sometimes.

Sorry to derail the thread. Next time I’ll keep my mouth shut.

\<sigh\> All I can say is it was a different culture. Girls in my high school were wearing tube tops and halter tops in the summer. They weren’t hiding their figure. Sexuality was much more accepted in the 70’s. I would have punched somebody in the nose if someone called me a kid when I was 15. I was already driving a motorcycle, drinking beer and making out with my gf. I was a typical 15 year old.

Would I say anything today? Of course not. 1. I’m way too old to flirt with anyone under 40. 2. It’s no longer socially appropriate in any setting.

Dolly Parton was a grown woman. Not a teenager being leered at, especially by someone old enough to be her father. What the hell is wrong with you?

Leered at? For simply commenting they had a figure? You consider that leering? I hope you never heard some of the conversations in the high school locker room. It’s not just the guys either. Girls make similar comments about guy’s tight asses.

It’s pointless to debate culture conventions from 35 to 40 years ago. The difference from then and today is staggering.

You are the one who said, in a reference to comments directed to a junior high school girl, and let me remind your exact words:

> Comparing a girl to Dolly Parton used to be considered a compliment. Now its sexual harassment. Welcome to the new politically correct world.

What the fuck? You did not say, “Thank god we don’t allow creepy old men to say shit like that.” No, you said “Welcome to the new politically correct world.”

That is simply bull shit. It wasn’t right 40 years ago and it’s not right now.

My comments were never directed at any junior high school girl. I made it clear in every post I was referring to 15 and up. High school girls. The typical graduation age is 17. Look at post 12.

After my post LavenderBlue posted she was 12 when the incident occurred with her uncle. That’s post 15.

In post 22 I repeated again that I was talking about 15 and up. Any suggestive talk to younger kids is wrong.

For the final time. LavenderBlue never stated her age in her very first post. I never dreamed a 12 year old could possibly generate a comment like that from her uncle. The guy deserved a ass kicking for talking like that to a kid.

Looking back at her post I see now that I didn’t notice her comment about 7th grade. I’m sorry about any confusion. I just didn’t read that part of the post. It’s past midnight, my eyes are tired and I wasn’t looking that closely at the posts. I must have reread that post 4 times before noticing the 7th grade reference.

Yes she did.
She said she was in seventh grade- i.e. 12, maybe 13 years old.
And she was clearly sharing a painful personal memory. When someone shares something personal and painful it’s pretty classless to then immediately make light of it.

I think you’re right to have strong feelings, especially insofar as protecting your daughter, but some of us do have an idea. I appreciate a shapely female body as much as the next guy, but I’ve always considered leering or lewd comments to be offensive, and I have to suppose that anyone who does that kind of thing is not actually expecting to get anywhere with the woman he targets. IMO, it has more to do with humilliation.

I once walked through a long subway tunnel behind a very attractive young girl. It took a few minutes to get to the other end, in which time I was amazed (well, not really) to see that \*\*\*every \*\*\*male from eight to eighty coming the other way sized her up with longing eyes.

How can that not affect someone?

I look at attractive girls, how could you tell if my eyes were “longing” or not?
Most probably all the people coming the other way were thinking, "look at that guy sizing up that young girl arse, with longing eyes. What a creep. I bet he stalks her all the way home.

It’s not bitter and twisted to want your daughters to grow up in a better world than you did. My eldest daughter is eleven. It’s obvious she’s going to need a bra before the year ends. I want her to feel happy about that prospect, not terrified.

Tube tops? Shit, they were asking for it then. Can’t expect a violent, beer drinking, typical 15 year old to control himself, amirite! I’d be all like “Hey Dolly, can I motorboat those funbags!” then I’d hop on my motorcycle and go make out with my girlfriend. I miss the 70s.

_Most probably?_ You weren’t even there and you’re going to tell me _what most probably happened?_😕

It was crowded, there were many people behind me and she was the person in front of me. If I had been _sizing up her arse_, I wouldn’t have been able to see the others, now would I? I used the word “longing” because they were smiling with expressions of hopeful expectation and fixing their eyes on her for as long as they could, some even turning their heads as they passed.

Hope that opens your eyes.
