At first I had the same thought Eve did when I saw that dinky corner photo on the cover. Then I saw inside where it read, “Read all the details about this remarkable woman – and see more than 150 breathtaking photos – in People’s 96-page special tribute, “Remembering Kate,” available from July 11 at your local supermarket or wherever magazines are sold.”
A 96 page tribute is nothing to sneeze at. And though she may have had her image relegated to the corner of this issue, she did, in fact, get an 8 page tribute in it (which is 2 more than the cover girl got). So this time at least, I’m willing to cut them some slack.
On the tribute tribute thread (begun by Eve) to Katharine Hepburn that was right after her death, someone – some very sensitive someone – posted these words: My, she was yar. That is the most appropriate tribute to her that I have read. Yes, I know the source of the quote. It’s from The Philadelphia Story and it was her line. But, whoever you are, when I read that, I almost bit through my bottom lip. It was perfect and I meant to tell you at the time.
Well, here it is, August . . . Bob Hope’s got his People cover, but I still don’t see that “tribute issue” to Katharine Hepburn on the newsstands . . . I repeat, in dismay and disdain, Katharine Hepburn doesn’t rate a People cover?!
I sure haven’t seen it . . . Maybe all the rabid Katharine Hepburn fans in NY have cleared the newsstands of 'em. If I do see it I’ll take a look at it, don’t know if I’d buy it—is it any good, really? I mean, if it was writen by People staffers . . . How much did it cost?
Honestly, Eve I didn’t get a chance to look at it all that closely. I had two of the Minions of Sauron with me and while one was trying to pull the display of Oreos into the buggy the other was determined to find a quarter to buy something out of the bubble gum machine. I just glanced at it but it did have some nice pictures.
I will let you know when I get it this weekend how it looks and if it is any good.
whiteboy, it’s her fucking job. She’s a researcher (well, that’s one of the many hats she wears), and has written numerous books about “stars of yesteryear”, such as Kay Kendall. You should be so lucky, to get paid for what you love to do.
I find it rather amazing the People is capable of evoking such emotions. The most powerful response it has ever drawn from me is, “nice rack”! Typically my response is, “eh”.
Thanks for the quick biography. Maybe she should realize not everyone gives a fuck about the same things she does, and its not a tradgedy if some dead chick isn’t on a list of Pop Culture Icons. I can’t be bothered to find the thread, but she was real fucking annoying in it.
