We get the Today show at 4am and have a couple of local lookalikes later in the morning. I think the problem you Katie haters have is that you are mistaking the program for news, you know the stuff you get in newspapers, magazines, the internet or radio if you are lucky. If it is on commercial television it is a TV show - Katie is just being Phoebe. Would you rather Matt Lauer be Joey? I’m sure if you taped a show and wrote a transcript of the actual news content you would be lucky to have two pages of newsprint a day. ---

Couric and her male bimbo costar couldn’t solve the crossword puzzle on the back of a Pizza Hut placemat (ages 3 and up) between them. On a more objective note (my predisposition to dislike The Couric), what in her professional history makes her even remotely qualified to cover hard news? Has she served in the White House Press Corps? Has she covered any major international conflicts or events? Was she even dimly aware of the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War? Can she name the heads of state of all major US opponents? No doubt she’s not quite as dim as she appears on her fluff-news morning show, but she has less credibility as a news anchor than Harriet Miers had as a Supreme Court Justice. Heck, Geraldo Rivera has a stronger claim on hard news experience than Ms. Couric, and I wouldn’t trust that guy to count his toes twice and come up with the same number. It’s just another attempt to pander to the ever-moving (generally in the downward direction) intellectual mean of the US. Stranger ---

In my experience, anytime I’ve been in the home of someone who watches The Today Show and the subject of Katie Couric comes up, it’s invariably followed by: “I just love Katie…she’s so _cute_!” To her audience, her qualifications don’t mean squat! ---
