Through gritted teeth, I said, “Don’t do that! Remember, we’re in public and there are little children around.” “But it just slipped out!” one of the students said. “I understand that,” I said, “but that’s why we need to be careful and make sure that these things don’t slip out.” Later that evening, I said to two of the students, “Have you ever noticed that I don’t use profanity in my conversations? I figure that if I don’t get into the habit of using in my private life, then I won’t be likely to use it in public. It’s more polite, and one can avoid a lot of embarrassing situations that way.” ---

My favorite is the Charlie Steiner clip on ESPN’s Sportscenter when he absolutely loses it after doing the highlight of Carl Lewis butchering the National Anthem. His laugh always makes me bust up. ---
