he admitted that he made up the story… i agree… but that has nothing to do with the populist allegory! it is a fictional story which tried to further prove the point of the populists you idiot.

1. No name calling. A moderator will be along shortly.

2. I think you hit “new thread” instead of “post reply”. Post reply puts the comment in the existing thread. New thread starts a new thread.

3. I think you meant to post in this thread: [Concerning The Wizard of OZ](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=171406)

4. True it is a work of fiction. Duh! **John W. Kennedy** wasn’t talking about that. From [http://www.halcyon.com/piglet/Populism.htm](http://www.halcyon.com/piglet/Populism.htm) :

> A month later, Henry M. Littlefield responded to Hearn’s letter, agreeing that “there is no basis in fact to consider Baum a supporter of turn-of-the-century Populist ideology.”

Littlefield is the author of the original paper\* that started the whole “Oz is a Populist Allegory” movement. In other words, the guy who started the whole thing rolling states that Baum was not a populist supporter. So why would Baum write a story that supports the populist movement? In other words, _Littlefield_ made up the story _that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a populist allegory_. That is what Kennedy was saying.
