I’ve downloaded the update, but I’m probably just going to wait for 1.1. I’ve already waited six months, might as well just wait for the big update that changes everything.
I found the 1.05 version at the website. It doesn’t appear to be an update, but rather just a completely new install. Will this update a preexisting game? Or is it a new install altogether?
New install.
Sometimes, when someone has bought the game elsewhere, it’s possible to get it from Steam without buying it again. I don’t know how, perhaps others do.
If you have a CD key you can enter it into Steam by going to your game list and then the Add A Game option to the bottom-left. If you want to save bandwidth by having Steam not re-download the rest of the game, tell Steam to install into your existing Kerbal Space Program folder.
Guys, Steam updates KSP to 1.05 just fine on its own.
I don’t have a Steam account. Is there a monthly fee for that? Or is it pay-per-play? More like Netflix, or more like iTunes?
Steam is free. You don’t need it for KSP, but it’s a nice platform for buying, storing, and launching games.
Free, no trick, no trap, no crap, just free. Once you try it, you’ll love it. Once you have an account, you can install it anywhere and download & play your games from anywhere. Also, a few times a year, there are major sales.
Ask some of the more demanding gamers here like SenorBeef and Kinthalis, they’ll say good things about it too.
As you said, auto-updates your games if you want it to. It also streamlines the search and installation of mods for most games (but not KSP).
It’s funny: I hated steam when I was forced to use it when Half Life 2 came out, but now I love it and am grumpy when a game I want to play isn’t on Steam.
No monthly fee, no subscription, no bullshit. All you’re paying for is the cost of the games you buy, and if you’re willing to wait until one of the sales every few months, those games can be very cheap. I’ve almost never paid full price for anything. I used to avoid it, but now I game almost exclusively through it.
Kerbal Space Program is an ideal game to buy through Steam - you get the advantage of having Steam automatically update your game for you, but the game does not require Steam to run, so you can still play if your internet’s down or whatever.
I gave this a try yesterday, and am thinking I need to plan to spend some time revisiting career mode. All of the changes seem great so far. Not saying there aren’t bugs.
Here is the complete list of changes. It’s quite extensive. The main thing is the upgrade to the Unity 5 engine, which is pretty huge.
Yeah, I’ve been playing the beta a bit. Performance is much, much better.
Anybody else getting errors trying to load the latest update?
I am trying to install this mod:
But I can’t seem to get it to work. I am playing the latest version of KSP, 1.1.2.something…
Could someone walk me through the mod process with small words? I’ve been able to get other mods to work fine. Might I be doing something wrong on this one? Is it incompatible with the latest version of KSP. Any other thoughts?
I expect your problem is that it’s got an extra folder layer in the zip file. If you’re unzipping the Cormorant Aeronology 1.1.21 folder into X:.…\Kerbal Space Program\Game Data then it’s not going to work. You want to go one layer further in, and unzip the Cormorant Aeronology folder into Game Data, and also have the Firespitter and ModuleManager .dll’s in the Game Data folder (though you might already have those there from other mods).
I just started playing this game again last week.
I LOVE THIS GAME.
And something fantastic just happened a minute ago: on an equipment testing run I got cheeky and sent Jebediah on EVA about 1.5 km over Kerbin falling at about 80 m/s. Of course Jebediah’s little hand couldn’t hold its grip on the pod and he was sent flying away from the craft almost immediately. Using the RCS I was able to slow him down, but to just under 60 m/s. He hit the ground, bounced once, and then he was fine! Lost the ship but my man miraculously lived to fly again.
Was he going at a relatively shallow angle? I had a landing from a few dozen KMs once and I think the angled bounce is what saved him (that time).
Difficult to tell. Things were happening really fast and I was sure he was going to die. I’m not even sure I’ve got the RCS controls right, but whatever I was doing was slowing his speed at least a little. It felt like he was going straight down but he probably had a non-zero quantity of lateral momentum, and the spot he hit the ground was near the saddle between two hills, so not flat, which I’m sure was a factor.
I still suck at rendezvous without having full mech jeb. I don’t know how to get at the required info - like when should I start to launch. There’s maths involved, that’s all I know
