# Keyboard behaving strangely

There are times when I wish to capitalize a letter and when I hit the shift key and the appropriate letter, a menu or some strange message appears on the screen. I suppose some previous user must have been a super Word user and has set the thing up to do the things it does. So, where do I go to unset whatever has been set in the past?
All suggestions will be appreciated.

In Word, there is a place where you can see all the keyboard shortcuts that have been made…I think you can find it under the insert\>symbol menu. Just do a search in the Word help menu and you’ll find a link to the keyboard shortcuts and you can remove the one that’s giving you problems.

Is this just in Word or in several programs?
Does it always happen or only sometimes? By that I mean does, say, shift+q always produce the menu instead of a “Q”, or does the menu sometimes appear and other times shift+q produces Q?
Is the computer shared with anyone unusual? Either an uber gamer , PC guru, or conversely, someone who has physical problems and is hard-pressed to operate a normal keyboard?

What is the exact message that pops up?
Try disabling Sticky Keys:

Another possibility is you have a stuck ctl or alt key on this keyboard. See if you can swap in another keyboard and see if the problem continues.
