I finished The Moon Spinners by Mary Stewart. I read a bunch of her books in my teens, this included. Enjoyed it even now in my 50s.
The library took back Infomocracy by Malka Ann Older. I doubt I’ll get it out again: There were too many characters and not enough time spent with anyone other than Ken & Mishima to develop any feelings for them. The author did very little word building, I had to figure out the political system on my own which wasn’t easy on audio. Every time someone mentioned cetenals I heard sentinels and after awhile started picturing giant mutant killing robots.
Martha Wells has done a better job in her Murderbot series of creating a corporation based all encompassing government with it’s fingers in every pie, and a far less tedious one than the ones in this book. Wells’ use of personal feeds, augmented humans and cyborg like SecUnits is much closer to the original cyberpunk vibe than whatever was going on with the tech in this book.
Overall it wasn’t a bad read, it just couldn’t keep my attention.
In other news, the new thread is up: Spring is here! Spring is here, life is skittles and life is beer…
