Polished off The Lies of Locke Lamora. I got used to the language (also, I think it got toned down a bit as the book went on), though the crapsack world was still sufficiently far over the top to make my teeth grate. But, in the end, I enjoyed it a great deal–my thanks to all of you here who’ve read and recommended it.
Next up is… not sure what. I’m tempted to dive right into the next one, but not sure yet. May be time to dig into some nonfiction I’ve had sitting around. We’ll see.
I finished The Prince and the Pauper the other day. I was significantly underwhelmed. It was much more of a children’s book than I expected and not funny at all. Since it was written by Twain, I was expecting more humor.
Time for some non-fiction: next up is Anne Applebaum’s Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe 1944-1956, another recommendation from one of these threads. I’m beginning to realize that I’d have no idea what to read if it weren’t for the SDMB.
The December thread is up and running, and can be found here.
Just finished re-reading Pattern RecognitionBy William Gibson. Love his characters, may have to read the rest of this arc again.
Have Neal Stephenson’s Baroque Cycle sitting on my desk. Guess I’m going for re-reading books that I love. Re-visiting worlds that I’m comfortable in.
Keeping a lookout for any new China Mieville or similar to shake things up.
Any suggestions?
