I believe that was the first King book I ever read, back in 77 or 78, which made me about 13. Still scares me
I’m currently reading the new one from Lauren Oliver, Vanishing Girls. shrug It passes the time.
I read **As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust ** by Alan Bradley. 90% of the book is garbage, filler I suspect because he didn’t really have a plot, so he invented a secret society to initiate his heroine into so she could run around on pointless errands and search for mysterious circumstances until he could wrap up the mystery in the last 40 page. It doesn’t help that the the “overly intelligent, precocious with an enormaous vocabulary” trope has been thoroughly killed, for me, by Elizabeth Peters shudder Ramses. But seriously if you want to use that trope don’t try to convince the readers she’s normal child by making her go all weepy for some 20 pages in the middle of the book.

Nope: 'salem's Lot Question - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board
Not a spoiler - it’s not integral to the rest of the book.
I see. Thanks.
