Khadaji's Whatcha Readin' thread -- November 2017 Edition

I finished Go, Went, Gone and highly recommend it.

Also read an interesting book called A Moonless, Starless Sky by Alexis Okeowo. The writer tells stories of ordinary people in various African countries, e.g. a young woman in Somalia who loves playing basketball. Nicely written, compelling (though often harrowing) stories.

I have almost finished Anthony Horowitz’s Magpie Murders. Complete fluff but very entertaining, especially if you like old-fashioned detective fiction in the Agatha Christie vein.

I finished reading Vathek by William Beckford. It’s a pastiche of an Arabian Nights tale written in 1782. It was quite faithful to the source material, I thought, but it didn’t blow me away. Numerous writers have been inspired by it over the years; for instance, H. G. Wells mentions it by name in his semi-autobiographical work Tono-Bungay and the Wikipedia article mentions Lord Byron, Keats, Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, etc.

New thread: I’m already done with Christmas Music…

Interesting - never heard of it before!: Vathek - Wikipedia

That’s a really good book. Very ominous.
