Around ten years ago there was a band called _Mr. Bungle_ that would play a great version of the Mario theme. They were a lot of fun. Haj ---

A few of my percussionist friends and I had a nagging idea about the Mario music. After a year of thinking about it, we finally got our act together, found some music, figured out the rest, and arranged it for mallet percussion and trap set. It was a medley of themes from the first three games- chronologically arranged, of course, with the starman and underworld themes, as well. We performed it in an ensemble competition and in a talent show. We received a superior rating at the competition, first place at the talent show, and a standing ovation at both events. Some good times. ---

Ah, that ain’t nuthin’. A friend of mine has MP3s of all the music from SMB as performed by a full orchestra. Apparently, a few years ago, it was the musical event of the season in Japan. ---

Kids today. I used to like to bang out the _Donkey Kong_ music on the piano. (With little fills for barrel jumps.) Of course, that was _slightly_ less challenging than _Super Mario Brothers_. Eesh. ---
