Looks like I’m too late to suggest The 13 Clocks, which I always suggest in these threads. It’s excellent for introducing the absurd to kids, and it’s just fun to read aloud. [James Thurber, out of print but find-able used]
The Eleventh Hour
I love these books. I was actually just thumbing through them in a bookstore this afternoon! These really are fantastically beautiful books, especially the Eleventh Hour (as it has a mystery in it!). I have spent hours just looking at the pictures, solving the clues and tracking certain things through each page. I actually bought the book for myself a couple of years ago, I look through it every once in a while.
