I wanted Red Ball Jets so badly as a kid thanks to their commercials. In my neighborhood, the girls all had Keds and the boys had Chuck Taylors or PF Flyers.

The only Google results for his full name are references to his winning the capsule contest, so he likely either died before the advent of the internet age or chose to go by a different name as an adult.
He was so mad about them making him give away “his” capsule (and when they asked him who they should give it to, he said “Give it to the Russians, if I can’t have it”, they said no) that he built his own spaceship in his backyard and took off and is living on the moon.
