Just buy the film when its released
Let’s take another look at what you said:
Grammatical issues aside, in the context you presented, that pretty clearly says that the evidence was withheld during the trial, not beforehand.
So which is it?
Ohhhhhhhh, you’re a shill! Now it all makes sense!
Btw up until recently , I had no reason look this up,
Disappointed. Thought thread was going to be about really great hiking routes.
Well, yeah, cuz you didn’t have a movie to promote!
“after 15 years …after his lawsuit was settled with the city it was time for the truth to come out” my ass.
lol I’m a shill? That’s pretty funny coming from an internet loser trying to pretend to be a internet lawyer on a 15 year obsolete message board lol
Odds are that none of us will even torrent it.

Still feel good about giving this guy the benefit of the doubt, Crazyhorse?
Even after I took your advice and explained elements of board etiquette…
Should we start the banning clock or is this coincidentally being in the Pit enough of a shield?
You truly are a loser lmao
Lb smooth, if you intend to use Eve’s comments in your movie, may I suggest you read the privacy policy first?

By this, you may not use anything posted on the Straight Dope without the expressed permission of the Chicago Reader with the exception of comments you have posted here yourself, or for personal use, not intended for distribution. If you do so, you will be violating US copyright law. I think we can agree that one of the first obligations of a film maker is to respect intellectual property, no?
One is not supposed to use the board to promote one’s commercial ventures (except for the Marketplace forum), so he might earn a warning for that, or maybe just a note since he is new.
If, as appears to be the case, he is a one-trick pony, he probably won’t be banned just for this thread.
What’s funny is that apparently he thought that he would have a big market for his purported “film” on this forum (based on a 14-year old thread that wasn’t that long to begin with), and that he would develop that market by hurling insults and invective. Unclear on the concept doesn’t begin to cover it.
My advice was actually to not explain board etiquette but nevertheless… Yeah I feel fine about giving him the benefit of the doubt. The film will either come out or it won’t, and the information will either be credible or it won’t. In either case no harm no foul as far as I can tell, especially in a Pit thread.
I really don’t think you can spam or shill about a possible future documentary that may be shown at a film fest.
Lb - This thread is in the one area of the boards where posters are allowed to insult each other so you will get a lot of that in here.
Any info you care to share ahead of the film’s release in the mean time would be great but just expect a lot of push and shove in here and if it isn’t verifiable through some means other than your say so it doesn’t mean very much.
I figured that a combination of that & the repeated comments of how this place is “shitty” and “obsolete” might earn him a mercy banning, lest his account continue to hijack his browser to this website that he clearly doesn’t want to be on. After all, why else besides a browser hijack would someone spend hours an a website that they think of in those terms?
It’s funny, though. He’s in the Pit by circumstance, not choice.
I feel like it’d be a safe bet that he’d be pulling the same thing if we were in GD. The intent to break the rules is there, but he’s saved by his own luck…
Perhaps he went to the “russian heel school of sales”.
And he has to be a paid member, too, doesn’t he? Guests can’t start threads in the Marketplace.
I thought about this & I have to disagree. If one doesn’t explain board etiquette, some people will never understand it. Someone who doesn’t know they’re doing something wrong has no reason to not continue doing it.
The issue is in how it’s explained.
After our conversation up-thread, I saw your point & rather than continue to feed the fire, I opted to explain it in context, rather than as a poster taking issue with another poster.
Thanks, I needed that.
There haven’t been many Claymation films released of late!
(Hope I didn’t let the cat outa the bag, Lb)
Well…
The fair use doctrine in copyright law protects brief excerpts of copyrighted works for purposes such as criticism, parody, news reporting, research. . . . and commentary.
So I’m not as sanguine as you seem to be that the proposed use is violative of copyright law.
I will bow to your professional expertise. I’m not a lawyer, so I yield the floor to you.
But would that be a “brief excerpt” of the entire thread or of any individual post?
