Kindle HD questions

Okay, I bought a Kindle and it’s been delivered. And now a stupid question. I’ve bought kindle books in the past and read them on my computer. How do I transfer them on to the Kindle?

If you can connect the Kindle to the internet via wifi, any books you’ve bought from Amazon will automatically be downloaded to the device. You might have to tell it to do this the first time.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to copy Kindle books directly to a device that’s not registered to whoever purchased them, they’re probably copy protected. If it is possible, exactly how you do it would depend what model you bought.

On the website go to Account > View Your Kindle Orders. Do they show up there? The “Actions” on the right might have some options, although it’s easiest to try it in the Kindle menus first.

Note that Kindle books you buy show up under that section, but if they are other formats they may show up under Docs instead.

The problem I seem to be running into is registering my Kindle. I go to the registration screen and type in my complete email address along with my existing Amazon password (my Amazon account is linked to this email address). But then when I check, my email address has been changed. It takes my user name but then it changes the domain name from aol.com to kindle.com. And when it creates this new email account with the kindle.com domain name, it isn’t finding any Kindle books in that account because I bought them with my actual aol.com account.

I’ve tried changing the account to the right email address but it keeps jumping back to this kindle account on its own.

On a separate question, is it better to recharge the kindle whenever I use it on batteries or should I let the batteries drain all the way down before recharging it?

Have you looked at the “Manage Your Kindle” page on the Amazon website to see if it has registered? I’ve only looked at the UK site, but there’s a Kindle help forum on there, and I’d imagine there’s something similar on the US site where you might be able to get more help.

You will get an email address with a kindle.com domain when you’ve registered it, to allow you to transfer stuff to your Kindle that way, but I think you’re supposed to register it first with the address you use for your Amazon account.

@kindle.com isn’t a real address AFAIK. You send things to your Kindle as mentioned (btw, it’s better to try @free.kindle.com first, although I don’t know if that matters if you have wifi only). In other words, the email address is probably not your problem. Manage your Kindle would be the first place to look, and you could also email support.

I believe its: charge when needed, but do a full charge>empty>full cycle occasionally.
