ETA: Wiki says he was a twin. Never heard that before.

It’s not surprising that Falwell was a twin. One person couldn’t _be_ that much of a douchebag.

Did you actually listen to what she said in the interview that you linked to, or just read the bullshit clickbait headline?
Here’s what she _actually_ said, verbatim:

> It has been proven through science that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it. And the only voice that we really have is through voting. And we voted, and it was really startling. You know you’re watching these hurricanes now and it’s really hard, especially while promoting this movie, not to feel mother nature’s rage, wrath.

Only a moron would infer that she is claiming the election, rather than anthropogenic global warming, has triggered “mother nature’s rage”.

Correct. We call them Cyclones in the southern Pacific, and I think they’re Typhoons in the northern Pacific, though maybe that’s not as common as it used to be.

Of course she’s talking about the election. It’s right there where she says:

But whether one buys that she was talking about climate change or recognizes that she was talking about the country being punished for electing Trump, isn’t it just as stupid either way to suggest that the weather is sentient and giving vent to its emotions, no matter the alleged cause?

Jennifer Lawrence is an idiot. I’m pissed at myself for liking her at the beginning of her career.

It would be madness if we didn’t have a collective term for all these kinds of storm system and some googling suggests it is (tropical) cyclone. So as well as the only name used for such weather systems in the south pacific, it’s also the collective term for hurricanes and typhoons.

Correlation is not causation. Just because one sentence follows another doesn’t mean they’re directly connected. She was responding to the interviewer. If you ignore that interjection you can see her train of thought follows her previous answer.

And anthropomorphising weather is hardly stupid, it’s very human to want to ascribe meaning to something that is largely random. We all do it in different ways; it doesn’t mean we believe what we’re saying literally.

You are accusing me of selectively quoting her, when all you have done is insert the words “And you have voted” that were interjected by the interviewer, as a way to create the illusion of separation between consecutive sentences spoken by Lawrence. What _you_ did is selective quoting that misrepresents what she said. The full spoken sequence, from your own transcription (which was otherwise exactly the same as mine):

> [@Jennifer Lawrence](#):
>
> …it’s been proven through science, that human activity, that climate change is due to human activity. And we continue to ignore it. And the only voice that we really have is through voting, and we voted, and it was really startling. You’re watching these hurricanes now and it’s really hard especially while promoting this movie not to feel Mother Nature’s rage, or wrath.

It’s not well-constructed prose, of course - it’s improvised speech. But the ridiculous meaning that you suggest is only plausible when you hide the first sentence about climate change.

I think I need to modify my prior comment. Anyone who infers that Lawrence is claiming a causal connection between the election and the hurricanes (rather than between anthropogenic global warming and the hurricanes) is either a moron or willfully misrepresenting what she actually said.

Right, and the core message of the Book of Job is that God allows Satan to do terrible things to good people not because God thinks those people are evil, or because He lost a bet, but because He’s God, and God does terrible things to the ones He loves.

This isn’t an abusive relationship because shut up.

Of course, that aspect of the True Faith is somehow… unpalatable to modern Christians, so they have to make God a Republican who sends major storms to Republican counties in Florida and Texas because of Austin and Miami. Apparently, sloppy is better than ineffable.

An all-perfect being is sloppy because shut up.

If only this _were_ a parody. But it’s apparently the way half the nation thinks.

When the Problem Of Evil is unanswerable, you’d think that the religious would just prefer to keep quiet and hope that nobody notices while Jeebus is busy murdering innocent people and Republicans with hurricanes.

> When the Problem Of Evil is unanswerable, you’d think that the religious would just prefer to keep quiet and hope that nobody notices while Jeebus is busy murdering innocent people and Republicans with hurricanes.

The Problem Of Evil is only unanswerable to people without faith. And not just any faith, but the right kind of faith. The faith that bad things only happen to bad people, that glurgy email forwards about the Deserving Poor being helped by the Dickensian Good Rich Person and bootstrapping themselves up into becoming, themselves, a Good Rich Person, are not only True but factual, and that its converse, the Problem Of Grace, is equally solved by good things happening to good people and bad people being punished.

It’s perfect: There’s no need for a social safety net because there’s no way for a good person to fall far enough to need one, and if they do, and they can’t rise back up, they must not have been good to begin with, so there’s no need for taxes to support any such programs. That does fine by the business Republicans, who generally can’t be bothered with what the God-botherers want save when they target them as a demographic, but who definitely would be interested in a religion where the capital gains tax is morally unconscionable. For the traditionalists, all of those ritual purity laws can before moral tenets: Being impure in the sight of God is now the kind of thing you get stricken down with AIDS for, as opposed to the kind of thing enter a temple because of, and that isn’t a problem because only bad people get bad diseases. The Good Samaritan is a wonderful story, just don’t replace Samaritan with Faggot, savvy? Plus, we can cut the sex ed classes because only bad people notice their genitals before they’re married, and we certainly don’t want to make any of our little children bad by teaching them that menstruation _isn’t_ rapid-onset Ebola. I mean, that saves souls _and_ money!

Speaking of money, the Prosperity Gospel means Jesus wants _you_ to have that Mercedes Benz! Name it and claim it, and if you fall short of your material aspirations, you must be immoral, and not like such paragons as Joel Osteen! Just buy more virtue! Operators are standing by!
