Sleep with the dogs you lie down with.

It’s not like the religious right is a fringe or quiet sect of Christianity in the United States.

I have a horror that Cameron will one day have a root canal and in so doing develop a passion for dentistry which he’ll then pursue exactly like he has his passion for Christianity.

“Who needs dentistry school? Just buy a chair and a drill and get some other crackpot who thinks he’s a dentist and go to work in downtown L.A.!”

I thought the deal was that because God spoke to Muhammad in Arabic, Arabic must be the language of God. Therefore the Q’uran is only proper in Arabic.

Right, it’s only the proper correct version in Arabic. BUT, the Muslims understood immediately that for somebody whose native tongue wasn’t Arabic, a translation would be necessary, so it’s not a sin or sacrilege to translate it so much as it’s not considered the _real_ Quran but a commentary or a version. A bit perhaps like _The Children’s Bible_ or a Sunday School guide would be to the [English translation of] The Bible.

I believe it is a duty of devout Muslims who do not grow up speaking Arabic to learn the language. Not sure of this.

I do wonder though- better GQ fodder but I’ll start here and move there if there’s no answer: unless Arabic is a lot different from every other language I’m familiar with it’s changed a lot in 1400 years. A Saudi businessman from Riyadh today would almost certainly speak a very different tongue than Muhammad would have spoken in the 7th century. Is 7th century Arabic still taught to Muslims? Or for that matter an illiterate Afghan mullah like Muhammad Omar- do they only know the Q’uran in Pashtun/Dari (whatever his language is) or does he speak 7th century Arabic?

The most interesting thing about Kirk Cameron — it’s rather bizarre, really — is that his nipples have never been photographed.

We established this fact in a Cafe Society thread. In all those teeny bopper magazines back in the day, and during that whole Growing Pains show, he never appeared shirtless which, for a “teen idol” is very unusual. It actually came to my attention upon watching a rerun on one eventless afternoon. Kirk was wearing a gi for an entire scene, and the efforts he made to pull and tug and hold the lapels together were quite conspicuous to the point of distraction.

So, what the hell gives with Kirk Cameron’s nipples? No idea.

Does anybody have a copy of the pdf of the 50 page intro? They disabled the original link, and now it says:

They are actually fully functioning eyeballs.

And a diligent search of the internet will show that he has never denied that…

The reason his nipples have never been photographed is because he doesn’t have them.

I thought it was because of the ‘stigmata’ bleeding, symbolizing the nipple-piercings of Christ…

Well, here’s the thing: The Flying Spaghetti Monster says that googling “julie mccullogh playboy” is the only path to salvation. So you have nothing to lose by doing it, and possibly everything to lose if you don’t. Besides, you know who DIDN’T google her? Hitler, that’s who.

That, and Playmates were a lot hotter back then. She was the part-time nanny/Kirk Cameron’s GF, right? I haven’t watched that show in 20 years…

Comfort doesn’t seem to grasp that last sentence. Not sure why he thinks his readers will. Much of the rest is the “where’s the missing link?” questioning with an obligatory “Piltdown, take a bow!” moment. (One century old hoax disproves all things since you know.)

The parachute question is of course reinstated.

I’m at work so I can’t spend all day on it, but they have made some changes. It looks like the new one is longer.

Text added to legal page:

> [@](#):

> Unless otherwise indicated, Scripture quotations in this book are from the
> King James Version of the Bible.

The page before the Table of Contents now includes a bunch of usual-suspect heavily mined quotes like:

> “A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and
> balancing the facts and arguments on both sides of each
> question.”
> — Charles Darwin,
> Introduction to Origin of Species (1859)

There’s now a section after the timeline of Darwin’s life entitled ‘Darwin’s Religious Belief’. It uses quotes to try & show that he was agnostic at the end of his life, mainly due to the death of his daughter. At first glance it doesn’t look too bad.

Now Ray-Ray is having a hissy:

Origin of Species Campaign Enrages Atheists

An angry backlash from atheists has prompted best-selling author Ray Comfort to stop answering questions about a special edition of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of the Species” he plans to give away on university campuses this fall.

“From now on I will refuse to answer questions about the book or its contents,” Comfort said, "because there is such a deep-rooted anger in the atheist world about this publication.

“They desperately want to stop us,” he said, “and I don’t want to give away any further details regarding the campaign.”

Comfort - host of “The Way of the Master” television show with actor Kirk Cameron and head of Bellflower, Calif.-based Living Waters ministry - is preparing a campaign Nov. 19 with Cameron to mark the 150th anniversary of “Origin of Species.” They plan to distribute 120,000 copies of a special edition of Darwin’s seminal book on 100 of the top university campuses across the nation.

They will be assisted by a few thousand volunteers, said Comfort, who wrote a 50-page introduction in which he says he provided evidence for intelligent design, the theory that the universe and life is the result of an intelligent creator.

Comfort, author of the newly released book “Nothing Created Everything,” says atheists have discussed their strategy to combat his “Origin of Species” edition on [Richarddawkins.net](http://Richarddawkins.net), the website of popular atheism advocate Richard Dawkins. Comfort dedicated “Nothing Created Everything” to the British biologist.

</div>

Comfort seems to be of the opinion that “it ain’t lyin’ if it’s for Jesus”. He claimed for example that Dawkins had refused to debate him on evolution- in fact there’d never been a challenge from either side. He’s made the same claim of many prominent evolutionary biologists who claim never to have heard from him. (Dawkins agreed to debate him for a $100,000 donation to his research foundation/full use of the video/Comfort specifically had to use the banana argument, but Comfort counter-offered $20,000 to a children’s charity which was declined and they reached an impasse.

When he debated the atheists for Nightline it was with the explicit understanding he was not to use the Bible in his argument against evolution. What’s the first thing he did? Quote the Bible. I’ve yet to hear him repeal “the banana argument” or any of his other laughably stupid claims in spite of mountains of evidence against them (I’m not talking evidence of evolution but evidence of his specific bullshit claims like banana-god and crocoduck).

I’d love to see the unedited versions of his and Kirk’s “atheist on the street” tapes; I don’t know this but I’d put serious money on them being edited to hell and back with intelligent responses deleted altogether.

>
> Human beings are pretty gullible. We tend to believe what we are told, especially if we hear it again and again. Take for instance the shape of the first banana. Was it similar to the shape of a modern banana, or was it more like the shape of a potato, as seen in this picture of a modern wild banana?
>
> Archaeological evidence suggests that the banana goes back as far as 8,000 years. So what was its shape? Was it short and fat, like a potato, or was it more like the shape of the modern banana?
>
> The truth is, we don’t know, because we don’t have 8,000 year-old pictures. But we can get a clue with a little study. We know that the color was different: “These historical bananas were not the sweet yellow banana we know today, but the red and green cooking variety (see below pictures), now usually referred to as plantains to distinguish them from the sweet type.”
>
> Notice the shape of these “historical bananas.” They are much closer to the shape of modern bananas rather than a potato shape. We can get another clue as to the shape of the original banana by looking at the origin of the word “banana.” It comes from the name banan, which is Arabic for “finger.”
>
> So when the anonymous producer of “the famous – the Atheist’s Nightmare!” video chose a picture of the original banana to make his point, did he choose one that looked like the “historical” bananas and the shape of a human finger? Of course not. He instead picked a picture of the modern wild banana. And then he cleverly morphed the modern wild banana into the shape of a modern banana…and the gullible believed him.
>
> In trying to make me look like a fool, Mr. Anonymous gave me an international platform for my message. I hope that one day he will contact me so that I can buy him lunch and thank him personally. Perhaps we will split a banana-split.

Un-believable.

We can’t possibly know what bananas looked like thousands of years ago because there were no photographs and thus no evidence.

The Bible however is all true. Completely true. Because it says so right there in the Bible. The description of the Garden of Eden written thousands of years after it would have occurred? Undeniable. That’s just logic.

The pyramids being built thousands of years ago? Who knows? They didn’t have pictures.
