I used to get reels on FB of scantily clad women (mostly Asian) either doing yoga poses or dancing which emphasized their asses. Then I installed FB Purity and programmed it to stop reels. As an added benefit, I no longer get other “supported” posts of things I’m not interested in.
Unfortunately, FB Purity doesn’t have a non-MAGA option.
But it does have the ability to hide posts with specific keywords. On the one hand, it would be hard to find words that MAGA people would use but others wouldn’t. OTOH, it might not be terrible to just block all the political posts so you don’t have to see any of it.
I’ve pretty much given up on facebook. Sometimes a friend tells me, “did you hear that so and so died? His partner just posted about it.”, and I’ll go read the obit and express condolences to the partner, and facebook will show me two posts from friends and three random posts of zero interest, and I’ll remember why I stopped using facebook, and log off again.
I haven’t had many problems with Facebook. I shut off the Memories feature. I do my best to never click on reels or sponsored posts. I use Firefox with an adblocker. I think literally all but two of my posts have been friends only.
I am able to stay in touch with friends, coordinate meetings of various sorts, and I use Facebook Messenger to chat with my Gobhi throughout the work day.
OTTOH When I was selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace, my listing of a preserved gator head was taken down as violating the ‘no live animals’ rule. Yesterday, a friend made a post featuring the painted poster for a cheezy looking film I had never heard of. I did some careful Googling on the title, The Lustful Barbarian. I learned two interesting things- It was based on the legend of Sigfried and it was one of Sybil Danning’s first films. I wanted to know more about the movie and why in the hell Danning (she can actually act. She was the only one in Howling 2 besides Christopher Lee to give a decent performance) was in a movie that had such terrible acting, terrible writing, and existed only for skinemax purposes. Facebook took down my post and my comments on my friend’s post.
I read the rules I was supposed to have violated. The rules noted that paintings, sculptures etc of nudity were allowed. The image I had shared from my friend’s post was a painting and all the women had black bars over their breasts anyway. I had linked to a site giving a review and facts about the film. That site was IMDB.
For some reason, although my sharing of my friend’s post was removed, and my comments on his post were removed, his original post was not removed.
Why wouldn’t non-MAGA types use that? What do you call it when MAGA types complain that Haitian migrants, are eating neighborhood cats and other pets in places like Springfield, Ohio?
The problem is that those words, and plenty of others, often show up when people quote the right wing. I don’t need to see some guy on facebook that uses, for example, the word libtard, but I don’t want to miss someone pointing out that a politician used it.
Yes, normal people use these word when quoting the magas, so seeing the words on that list, you will know it is either a maga screed or someone responding to it.
And “Fake news” is the knee jerk response that trump started when people call him out on his lies. When he spews something inane like Haitians eating pets, I say that’s a lie, I don’t say it is fake news.
