Kitty is Blocked Up - Ideas? (Vaseline on hand)

Kitty spent almost all of yesterday in the bedroom (I even served the canned food there - it usually goes in the kitchen).
Today, she was back to poking her nose in my face to wake me and is showing increased activity.

I saw the computer screen AFTER kitty was wrapped up and taken back for X-ray of her gut - not a good time to demand her back and leave.

Kitty is now quite happy to be inside - she no longer even pays attention to the opening of the door, so I am NOT worried about someone breaking into the place and her “escaping”.

I choose this place based on Google, and only Google.

They got points for:
Exclusively Cat Practice.
I had called a couple of years ago and asked a screening question sequence:

  1. Do you de-claw?
  • if Yes: -
  1. What method?

They lost points by not having after-hours contact. The sign by the door shows 2 or 3 shops which DO respond to emergencies.

They screwed up the billing/credit card. I have contacted the bank and lodged a counter-claim.
They over-billed and then told me they had reversed the over-charge amount.
They didn’t - only the charge shows, no offset. The “Receipt” I was given has the notation “Not Final Receipt”.

I really wanted to have this work - I don’t like shopping for medical treatment, and would really like to feel comfortable with this group… But…

I do hope they have at least video of the exam rooms. They left me in one while they worked on kitty in back.
An unlocked glass-and-sticks “medicine cabinet” on the wall contained both syringes and a handful of sharps (“needles”) in various sizes.

Well, kitty has disappeared again - probably back in the bed.

But, bless her heart - her usual schedule is a poop every 2 days. She went 3 before the vet and then did one in a single day.

Yes, I had stool sample, yes, I tried to interest them in it, and yes, it was fresh. I got the impression they they were more interested in selling “Prevention” (at $102) than finding evidence of existing infestation.

I’ll let you know when a bat swoops into the house AND bites cat AND carries some “always fatal, but Preventable (at 90% profit)” disease.

I let them do the worthless to her, but a profit item nonetheless, rabies shot.

Some idiots, because it’s petroleum jelly, equate it to fuels and solvents.

The linked PetMd article doesn’t mention Vaseline.

I don’t know if this is a “sign of the times” or (another) “sign of this shop”, but:

The tech (the one who couldn’t get the computer to work), after I explained that I had resorted to Vaseline:
“?” What does Vaseline do? expression.
She is early 20’s and, apparently, had never heard of the trick.

I thought it was a clever, effective, treatment.

I did pick up 50 mg tablets of docusate for crumbling with food. 50 mg/day seems the standard cat dosage.

Am I the only one who interpreted the thread title in an entirely different way ?

Not once, but twice. I realized I read the 1st few lines of this thread a couple days ago.

I am sorry youve had bad experiences at the clinic. Perhaps it is indeed time to talk to friends or coworkers with pets for better recommendations.

As stated, they likely took the cat away because it was easier for them to handle them that way.

Veterinarians are known for sucking at profit margin analysis so I doubt they made that much.

Again, rabies is a public health issue, and that vaccine is usually the least profitable. Vaccinating against rabies may even be a city ordinance. Any rabies related thing probably has some law or public health concern behind it. Cannot fault the vet for something he/she is required to do.

You expected a vet to have a mobile x-ray machine that they could just roll into an exam room whenever it was needed?

BTW, my bad, forgot to mention that I hope Kitty is on the right mend and all issues are resolved soon.

She was much better yesterday.
I was, myself, bedridden today, so I don’t know if her staying with me in bed was because of her own listlessness or just to keep me company.

She owes me a poop by morning.

Her eyes are brighter than then were Wed-Thur.

If I can be certain of this vet’s assessment (no blockage, no indication of disease), I could let her go for another 2 days.
I have MD appt on Tue, so daddy’s medicine takes precedence over kitty’s.
I am a month or two behind schedule on my own blood work.

I do wish I could be certain that she is a good, frisky cat at night, and the “blah” behavior I see is because I am waking her during her bedtime.

C’mon kitty, shit already! Stop worrying the human!

Shit or get off the litterbox?

It looks like kitty will pull through…

I’d be happier if she would increase water consumption, but as long as intake and output are reasonably balanced, I give up.
