I actually told my family that I had enough knitting stuff, and that they didn’t need to give me anything like that for Christmas. It’s true. I can’t currently think of any knitting things that I need, and very little that I even WANT. I didn’t think it was possible to become sated with yarn, but that seems to have happened. I’m gonna knit from stash for a while. ---

Blue Moon Fiber Arts from my Brilliant Nephew. (My nephew teaches math to middle-school-aged people, and they _like_ it? He’s truly brilliant.) I’m already in BMFA’s Rockin’ Sock Club and have a non-trivial BMFA sock yarn stash, so I’m thinking Woobu – or maybe Icelandic – for a sweater. Decisions, decisions! p.s. People who got hand knit items _from_ me were appreciative – especially Brilliant Nephew’s mother (aka, my sister) who got two pairs of socks and long mitts. ---

I got a Knit Picks gift certificate from **Lillith Fair** and leaf through the catalog every night, trying to make my mind up…needles, or yarn? If needles, which size? If yarn, which color and how much? As a sort of Christmas present to myself, I ordered an old knitting magazine/book thingy (you know, those pattern books that Stacey Charles and Rowan put out) from a knitting shop in my sister’s town, and made her go pick it up for me as her Christmas present to me. Since my sister taught me how to knit the first time, and has made me some great sweaters (back in the 70’s), I thought she might get inspired by the luscious yarns when she went to the shop and decide to take up knitting again. But I fear her frugal, acrylic-loving soul was so stunned by the prices, it put her in shock. She kept going on and on on the phone about “the balls of yarn are so many different sizes, and how would I know how much I might need, and I need stuff I can just throw in the washer, and why was everything so expensive, I mean, $20 for a skein? And why wool? Don’t they know wool itches and shrinks?” I guess the midst of a serious family financial crisis was not the time to send her into a high-end yarn shop. I just wanted her to get inspired, and it backfired. ---
