I recently started talking to a woman who knits. I’ve met her once in person and I have a feeling that we will have a good friendship if not something more. (Hoping for more) I like to get all my friends something for the holidays even if it’s something small and would like to get her something. I don’t want to spend alot because I don’t know her well yet and I don’t want her to think she has to get me something in exchange. I’m open to all suggestions. I would like to keep the price under $25.00 however. ---

MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmalibrigo. You can’t go wrong with Malibrigo, IMHO. Much loved, very yummy, can probably get 2 skeins for about $25. Interesting site. I’m going to figure out what colors she likes without asking her. I did mention this board to her but she didn’t mention she is a member here (so I feel safe) ---

What does she knit? Find out if she likes big, chunky knits or little things like socks, and get her some [unusually nice needles](http://www.lanternmoon.com/landing_needles.asp) to match that. If you’re successful in solving the color mystery, I’d second the Malabrigo. I’ve never met another knitter who doesn’t love it. ---

Right now she is working on a cardigan from wool and a pair of socks. She says she always works on socks. Hope this helps you and me. ---

She is the first woman I’ve met in a while I find easy to talk to, and who has quite the same interests as myself. I find it had to believe she is not a doper but she didn’t act like she knew this place and I wasn’t going to ask if she is. I like the one you linked to and will take the plunge and buy it. ---

If you end up buying yarn, you might need to be aware that yarn colors come in dye lots. If you order more than one ball of the same color, make sure they’re not just the same color, but also the same dye lot (different lots of the same color are slightly different, enough that it might be visible when the item is knitted up). If you order online you don’t need to worry, since they’ll ship you balls from the same dye lot. If you go to a local yarn store to buy yarn, you can check the information on the paper band that’s wrapped around the ball. I only mention this because a friend bought some yarn for me to make something for her, and the different dye lots were quite noticeable and affected the look of the item I made for her. ETA: nevermind, since it looks like you already bought something - but maybe you’ll need to know this for future gifts if you guys wind up together - good luck! ---

Ok, she won’t LITERALLY die, but you can bet you’ll be on the “my favorite gift” list for a long, long time. It’s very thoughtful for you to get her something related to an activity that she obviously enjoys and to ask others what a good purchase would be. Yer a keeper! ---

So this is Christmas… I saw her last Saturday. I knew I wouldn’t see her again before Christmas so I gave her the gift then. I asked her not to open it until Christmas and after telling me I didn’t have to get her anything (I replied with I wanted to) she accepted it and agreed not to open it. Today I get a text message from her thanking me for the gift and mentioning it is her favorite yarn. Thanks again for the suggestions. ---
